Special Men by Sineala

Title: Special Men
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sineala
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] ancastar
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Characters/Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 24,830 words.

Summary: It is 1975, the height of the First Wizarding War, and Voldemort's reign of terror has spread far and wide. His followers, the Death Eaters, have begun cursing and killing Muggles. As CI5's brief includes domestic terrorism, the responsibility for stopping Voldemort falls on them -- but this is not a fight they can win without magic. For this reason, Ray Doyle, an Auror, is transferred from the Ministry of Magic to join CI5, as its first and only wizard. But his abilities must remain secret from his fellow agents, including Bodie, his new partner. But Bodie seems to have a few secrets of his own, and it especially doesn't help that Bodie is so damned attractive...

Notes: This is a fusion with the Harry Potter universe, though you do not need to be familiar with Harry Potter to read the story. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ancastar for the amazing, amazing vid trailer and artwork! Thanks to the mods for running this thing! Thanks to my friendslist for the encouragement! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] callistosh65 for the Britpick! I like the beginning and will read the whole story as soon as possible.
The vid trailer is mesmerising, and I like the banner and icons too. Very well done. :-)

Hee! I've said it once and I'll say it again--I don't know many people who would have combined the world of teen wizards with hardened 70's special agents. But you did and it's brilliant. I had a blast working on this, thanks for being such a wonderful collaborator.

All I can say is, I'm very glad I got over my antipathy for AU or I'd have missed a highly inventive and entertaining story. Very nicely done!

(Also my girlfriend would like me to tell you that she has read and loved all your Adrien English books.)

Thank you. That's very kind of her (and you) to say.

This is great. It's such a giggle. The mental image of Doyle in robes - I love it!

Slytherin. Yeah, had to be! LOL

Thank you, Sineala and Ancastar, and the mods who are managing everything so smoothly.

I have to admit I was dubious. . . .but I am now a convert. I loved the story! It fit, it worked and quite frankly, I want more.

LOL, that was absolutely great, what an idea.

And I liked it, how it turned out that not only Doyle went to a certain school *snicker*

Very well done, only one negative point .... I wished, your story was as long as an original Potter book :P
I could have read on and on, you really combined these two worlds so perfectly!

Thanks a lot for your story!

Although I'm not that into HP I enjoyed your story very much. Doyle's thoughts were hilarious and I loved your enigmatic Bodie opening up to Doyle bit by bit. Thanks! :-)

Fusion is right! I like the way you've pulled in canonical background information--particularly for Bodie--and fed it into this fused universe in a way that both makes sense and is critical to the story. Also, I really like the idea of them with wands. *g* (Don't know why--just do!) Anyway, thank you for an entertaining read!

Great story! I really liked how you managed to get by the cuteness of the Harry Potter universe (and I do like the Harry Potter universe,) so that Bodie and Doyle were true to form. Bodie's origins were a welcome surprise. And the sex between them sizzled!

My only complaint is that I didn't want to leave that particular "universe." :-)

When the BB stories were first announced I confess that I was most looking forward to yours. I love Pros and HP and I was curious to see how you pulled it off. In light of your wonderful Roman AU I figured you'd do a good job. Let me tell you, you exceeded all expectations! The fusion is seamless and very clever. The idea that B is in denial as to his true capabilities is marvelous, as is the fact that C is one of them too. And the houses you're chosen for each one are so appropriate. I thoroughly enjoyed this - it's definitely a keeper. Thanks so much for sharing your brilliance with us!

Where to start? What a fabulous crossover!! One of the best first kisses I have ever read. Great sex. It was all so believable and of course Cowley had to be Slytherin - why didn't I see that coming?

Details - quotes that linger: I changed my mind.....Some things are more important.
And Accio grenade pins

The image of the shield charm in the fire is gorgeous.

How clever to blend the timeline of Pros with the right period for HP and give us HP wihtout HP as it were, and such great glimpses of well-known characters. (I wrote a Spooks/HP crossover so I know how hard it is to keep everything straight but it's amazing how well HP fits with Brit secret services!)

Mainly, I just want more - preferably a series.

Thank you for this fic - I will treasure it.

Well, see, we want the Roman stuff as well. Or, to put it another way, those of us waiting for the Roman stuff want HP now, too.

Maybe you should do a fusion of the Roman stuff with the wizarding world as it must have been back then, and please everybody....

Ot maybe you should just find a way to have extra hours in every day!

I got round all the problems by setting Spooks and HP in Regency England so that my chosen Spooks characters and grown-up Harry could be the same age with no complicated explanations or doctored timelines.

You definitely have to watch Spooks - a.s.a.p. - never mind some day! It's MI5, ensemble cast which changes as and when people get shot/blown up/etc. and is full of good looking well developed characters, topical issues, and fascinating back stories. Brilliantly scripted and acted. But never expect the hero to survive and come back in next week's episode - he might, but the show doesn't always work that way. Edgy stuff!
