Hello Big Bangers!

It's that weekly check-in time again, so feel free to step on up and use the comments to tell us how you're doing.   Or, alternatively,  flail/cry/jump-for-joy/pour a large one (delete as applicable).   Got any questions you need answered?  Ask away!   Just want to chat about something that isn't the Pros Big Bang?  Well...we're probably OK with that too ;)

I hate the Elmore Leonard list, I really do. Particularly rules 3 and 4 ("Never use a verb other than "said" to carry dialogue" and "Never use an adverb to modify the verb 'said'"). I like the interesting verbs, and there are times when an adverb makes all the difference.

Agreed!! I like the interesting verbs too. It's more over-use of particular ones, or blanket use of attribution throughout a fic, that maybe doesn't work so well. He knows nothing :D

I agree with you there. I like interesting verbs other than "said". I was always told in College that if you can use a word other than "said" then do it, as it will make it more interesting for the person reading. Plus when a character is Angry they don't just say things, they shout, yell, hiss or grind out their words in anger. "Said" wouldn't cut it for me in that situation or other situations where you want to get across the mood and tone of voice used. :D
