Weekly Check In Post
Hello, Pro’s fans, it once again falls to me to greet you all with a weekly check in post which gives me a horrifying reminder of how fast this year is racing past!
Are you like me, facing a long endless tunnel of writing with seemingly no end, or are you sorted, sitting pretty and feeling justifiably pleased with yourself?
Either way, a quick reminder that the artist sign ups open very soon (as if we didn’t have ENOUGH to do) so there’s no rest for those fingers just yet!
Wishing you all a successful, productive and safe week, this is Boothros signing out in order to re-watch Doyle defusing an atomic bomb…

So I'm still lagging far behind, now have around 1,000 words, which is approx 200 more than I had last time I checked in.
I've got the idea of the story in my head, but I can't seem to get the shape of it down on 'paper'.
But I have been going great guns with a random fic in another fandom, using a method I never really use - writing the bits I have words for and just putting place holders for the interconnecting bits I don't.
So, I thought I'd give that a whirl this bank holiday weekend (in between doing some shopping - I'm sure you're not supposed to subsist on leftover Easter eggs...)
I did have a question for the mods though, because I've never worked this way before: does the rough draft have to be complete to the point in the story you've got to - or can you have a more 'swiss cheese' draft, with a patchwork of completed chapters interspersed with placeholders - so long as the completed chapters meet the word count?

Enjoy your shopping!

Oh yes, thank you, that does.
I never worked this way before. I normally have everything in my head - so I can tell you exactly where I'm going with a story, but I can't show you until I've written it - except for what I call 'plot points' - jottings to avoid plot holes (such as 'Doyle can't ride a bike he broke his leg in Chptr 3').
But lately I've been so tired it's made it hard to juggle all that together with RL in my head, as I would normally do.
So I wrote the whole lot out as chapter notes with a projected word count (because ages back I settled on a comfortable word count for chapters).
It feels a bit like painting by numbers, but I've left myself room to meander, and it appears to be working because I've written a bit more today.
Going to take a break now though :0)

Of course, you might not need this, but since you've never written a story in this way, I thought I'd suggest that option. But however it gets done is the best way for you to do it.

It does seem to be working because I've nearly got three chapters finished now.
The only thing I've found is that it's a bit of an art keeping the continuity straight.
And all cheerleading is welcome !
