As the aim of BB is to encourage longer, more involved stories, I've gone for the 20k option again. I know, I know, total masochism on my part but we all want long stories, don't we? Of course, if the result comes out for 15k there's nothing to stop me (or anyone else) writing more but I just felt that 20k was a good minimum. JMHO.
I vote for the lowest possible because that might take the focus off how MUCH people have to write and leave more brain power for story. :)
In my limited experience, I am (and think others are) more likely to write over the mininum once started and into the story. But long Required word counts can be off putting and sound scary.
Actually I think that was slightly manipped (they weren't standing that close together), but it's from a promotional appearance LC and MS did with some Waves in Gibraltar. There was a post with a series of appearances photos some months back.
golden_bastet is right - I used the lads from that original photo to make the header image on last year's cheerleader sign-up post (http://ci5-boxoftricks.livejournal.com/23253.html), then reduced it in size for my icon.
I voted for 15K so the people who were too daunted by the 20K limit last year might be more encouraged to participate this year. I reckon the people who have a 20K+ story won't worry about the word count, and people who can't quite manage 20K won't feel they either can't play, or need to pad the story.
I voted for 15K too for the reasons other people have already given. If I participate I'm unlikely to stop at 15K but I hate the thought that writers might be put off by a longer wordcount. I know we want long stories but 15K isn't exactly short.
More words do not necessarily indicate a better product, but you would certainly be free to become more discriptive, etc. and more detailed in your story line, but then you can do that no matter what length is set. I think it encourages more authors to write if the minimum is lower and that is why I voted for 15k.
I don't seem to have a problem running off at the pen, but if it would entice more authors to participate then I'm all for the 15k. We can always write over the amount :)
I found last year that I was writing to get past the minimum before I got to 20K, but was writing to fill out the story after that (I thought I'd end up around 25K, and might've with more time, but fell just short). So it seemed to be more of a psychological line than anything else.
Given that my boss has already said there won't be any let up in the crazy workload going on, maybe I should go for the 15K, though. :worried: And encouraging more writers is a good thing. :)
I've gone for 15k because I'm not sure I'll be able to participate this year, but if the word limit is on the lower side then it might be more doable for me ... and any others who are possibly concerned about a high word count;)
I voted 20K for the selfish reason of wanting the challenge, despite greater chance of default and a story full of empty filling *g* I don't have any story ideas as yet, but I like the idea of trying to come up with and planning something that might make 20K. Obviously that personal challenge still remains if the limit is set lower and I totally get the argument about wanting more people to feel they can participate.
