Weekly check in post!

A big hello and welcome to our latest check in post.

Thought I would start this post with links to a couple of sites that have some great stuff on them:

Internet Movie Car Database – Professionals section

Internet Movie Firearms Database – Professionals section

Next, as it is a Monday and we all need pretty things on a Monday, a few pics for you:

And lastly, as always, let us know how you are getting on in the comments, whether you are thinking, planning, plotting, writing, beta-ing, editing, cheerleading, or, like me, just waiting eagerly.

EDIT: In the comments [livejournal.com profile] golden_bastet linked to the seven point system which looks really interesting.

Hey! For once I can say I have actually kind of almost worked on my BB! In fact, today is all about actually getting started writing! Naturally, I am now wandering all over the internet rather than actually opening Scrivener... Hmm. I think I need some accountability. Shall I report back in an hour? See if I have actually managed a sentence?

I'm a happy bunny this week! ILWB was kind enough to look through my fic and has given me some great comments, suggestions, questions and encouragement. Can't thank you enough, babe!

(there aren't any more words, as yet, but I know where I'm going now!)

Cool! Um...okay, but give me an hour and a half as I am about to go out walking in the rain. See? No greater dedication does woman have to Pros than she will go out and walk in the rain to get the writing flowing... *g*

Both betas are basically happy - apart from some glaring typos which seem to sneak in on the way to and fro between us. So we have all put it aside till after the rough draft deadline in the hope that looking with less jaded eyes will pick up all the errors! I hate proof reading so I'm very happy they've given me permission to procrastinate! *g*

Thanks to the incredibly quick turn-around from my beta (and I must thank her once again!) I have nearly finished editing. The next problem, though, will be keeping away from it over the next 3 months and not tweaking it for the sake of it.

So, from now on in, my big bang writing hat is off and my cheerleeding one is on.

I've been stuck just shy of 10,000 words for days and days now, and every night I think this will be the day I cross the mark, and then there's tweaking and deleting and it doesn't happen.

But the 10,000 word mark isn't the big problem--I'm confident I'll hit that before the rough draft deadline--the big problem is trying to figure out if I have enough time to finish the whole damn thing before the final deadline. I'm currently slightly optimistic on that point, with a side helping of crushing doubt.

Nearly ready to send my proposed rough draft off to my beta, which comprises about a quarter of the entire fic, together with a vague outline of the rest;P Then I just have to wait for a verdict *pushes panic button*

Of course after that, and provided I get a green light, the rest of it has to be written ...

Revising is going on, and I'm catching a lot of niggling things (inconsistencies, misplaced sentences, etc). So I feel good about that.

However - I'm going to have to add some sections (beyond the sex scenes, which are still primarily in the draft). We seem to get from points A to Z with some quantum leaps in the character progression, which isn't *quite* the way to get there. I think I know what needs to be done to fill in those holes, though the beta and I need to talk soon.

Oh, and I also have to rally the other betae; I'm a little slow about that this year. :(

I'm also at the "distracted by shiny things" stage, in which I want to write all sorts of things, but I'm having a little trouble concentrating on the BB. That's probably a good sign overall, because it means the words are coming out (and it happened last year); I just have to get back to the BB at hand. :D

I'm finding this a pretty challenging BB, though, more than last year. I'm not sure I can go into why w/o spoiling a bit (though I may have hinted at it a while ago behind the high walls of the f-lock :D).

BTW, I just saw some writing tips on my flist: http://lisabouchard.com/2011/10/22/the-seven-point-system/
Haven't read it yet, but it looks handy.

And imdb: I once saw an excellent plot bunny on the Pros board there. It's in my short list of things to come back to.

I'm pretty talkative this morning for being rather sleep-deprived, LOL.

Goooo...SENTENCE! *\o/*

LOL, I've sat down to start writing, and realized three hours later I haven't opened the file yet.

Heh. I know how that can happen!

I still haven't written a sentence, but I am outlining the story and writing notes. That's progress!

I am feeling rather chuffed. I sat down and wrote almost 10,000 words in three days and my rough draft is not only done, but the first edit is back from my hard-working beta.

The rough draft is just over the minimum final word count BUT, my beta has suggested another chapter needs to be inserted, so the story is going to grow some.

I'm probably not going to look at the story again before next weekend, but the way things are looking, I should have it done by the time the rough draft is due, which is good because that means I can then focus on the artwork I've signed up to do.

[identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm.... No. But I am this close to starting! The problem is, I'm not at all certain how to tell the story I want to tell. Arrgh!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I'm now at 9,700-ish words, the 10,000 mark is totally do-able. But the rest...

At least my brain has finally got to the point where I'm constantly working through scenes in my head and working out the implications of them all. That's been a long time coming with this story, so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for happy betas! I'm sure it's going to be wonderful.

As for the typos, those little buggers always creep in everywhere. Taking some time off from looking at it is probably the best thing you can do.

[identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, make that 407 words for the day. *g* Yes, not much, but it's a start, which is the main thing. And I more or less know where I'm going (or at least how to proceed.) Just because I need a month to reach 10,000 words, that's no reason to panic. Right? Right?

(I do wish I was a writer who used more words than necessary!)
