Wolfkammer by moth2fic

Title: Wolfkammer
Author name: [livejournal.com profile] moth2fic
Artist name: [livejournal.com profile] smirra
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 32,265
Warnings: None
Summary: Cowley lends Bodie and Doyle to the authorities in Germany to help counter possible neo-nazi terrorism. Hints of the supernatural hinder and help their efforts but not everyone believes... During their time in Germany the lads discover new feelings for each other.

Notes: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] margaret_r  and [livejournal.com profile] firlefanzine for the beta. All remaining errors are a result of pig-headedly ignoring them. Heartfelt thanks to  smirra  who has produced the beautiful artwork to acccompany this fic. Many thanks, too, to [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair who is standing by ready to pretend currently pretending to be me and post this if I'm still offline on my assigned day!

The story was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] firlefanzine who remarked, wistfully (I thought), that nobody would ever set a Pros story in Wolfkammer, Komp and Mennkausen, which are villages near the place where she lives. Well, with a challenge like that... and we'd just been discussing the supernatural elements of All The Queen's Men, too!! So Wolfkammer is dedicated to her.

Umph... dedicated to me? :-)
But I've only done that wistful(!) remark about the region where I live, I mean that Bodie and Doyle would never ever solve a case here around...

No, really! I feel honoured!
And you can't believe how much fun it was to read your story, and how happy I am to have a real Pros-location right on my doorstep! :-)

Thank you for that!

Thank you very much fo the pleasure to be an early reader of your magical story and the confidence to trust me with the art work. It was a pleasure to work for it!

The artwork is great, I loved the morphed images. And I have a soft spot for werewolves anyway! Thank you for writing this.

Makes a change to see a Pros fic set outside the UK or Africa, and to see them out of their usual 'habitat' so to speak :)

That was a really great read! Once I started, I couldn't stop until I'd finished. Loved Ray's fretting about accidentally revealing his feelings, and Bodie's matter of fact acceptance.

The wolves were a very intriguing aspect too.

It was such an interesting story. Great setting as well. And lovely art to boot.

I really enjoyed your story. You made me feel as if I was there, in the German countryside, with Wolves and wolves. *g* Your characters were very lifelike, with their own personalities. I liked how Doyle revealed his feelings and how much Bodie wanted him as well. Great story with a lot of atmosphere and interesting details. Thank you!

Now I never thought that could work, assignment of the lads in Germany, in the deepest woods and all.
But you managed it *g* I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I liked the OC as well very much.

Thank you!

I enjoyed the story and liked the hints you placed on the "wolves" vague and easy to miss until one has finished the story and bops themselves on the head for missing them.

What a great job you did with this rich setting. You really brought it to life. The plot was satisfyingly complex and very original!

I am very fond of stories with the lads on foreign assignment, and the setting for this one was wonderful - I felt I was there. I really liked the love story angle too, the way Doyle was all ... internal about it, looking at Bodie full of longing, and Bodie seemed all bright and breezy and unaware (although of course he wasn't!). The disco scene was one of my favourites. Susanne and Christina seemed exactly who we might have seen them chatting up in the show :) And I do so like the idea of them in that big hotel bed, and the memories of their first times together that they'll have. Excellent story, thank you!

Well, I’ve just been saying that I never thought I’d read and enjoy a Pros story which involved zombies and I think I could say the same about werewolves because I’ve just read your story and thought it was a delight to read!

Hope it’s Ok to list a few specifics:

I loved the way you placed Bodie and Doyle in a foreign land unsure of themselves in terms of language and culture but always confident of their own particular skills; I liked the sense of ‘place’ you created, even down to the way the German characters spoke English, so much so that I felt I’d actually travelled and stayed in that little village in Germany (and saved the airfare!); and I loved the twist in the tail (sorry!) in the way you had the wolves protecting our lads rather than attacking them.

And generally, some very nice writing:

He stamped down the earth around the buried thoughts.

An intriguing, original read, I couldn’t ask for more! Thanks very much for this.
