Well, it's certainly been fun on this end... Doggie drama abounded (he somehow scratched his cornea, and it went downhill from there). But he's back home, cone and all, and beyond getting over the sedative, because he does not like eye drops :-( he's doing okay.

So, without further ado, it's time for the Rough draft requirements reminder :cue dramatic music:

As we are now getting to the midway point before the rough draft deadline on the 1st of July we thought this was a good time to post a reminder of the rough draft requirements.

I. A minimum word count of 6,600 words.
We're not going to be totally tyrannical about this. If you're only at 4,000 words, but it's clear you're well on the way to finishing, that works for us. But if you're only at 1,000 words, we have a problem. Talk to us and let us know how you are getting on. We don’t bite - hard. (At least most of the mods don't.)

II. A reasonably complete outline of any unfinished scenes
The outline can be as complete (massively detailed descriptions of every remaining incident in the story) or as brief ("insert sex scene here") as you like.

III. A reasonable confidence that you will be able to finish the whole story (10,000 word minimum) by the September 23rd deadline.
This last bit is the most important. Since it gets handed to an artist at this point, we'd like for the artist not to work on something that isn't going to get done.

IV. A short paragraph length summary/blurb that can be posted publicly on the comm for the artists to claim from.
This should give a good flavour of the story, but doesn't have to give everything away. You can see what people wrote for the last few years: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014.

Please also include a warning if one applies (e.g. for subjects like death, rape or underage sex) or, if the story needs a warning but you are worried about spoilers, you can let us know that you choose not to warn.

Lastly you don’t need a title at this point, we all know that sometimes this can be the very last thing that you write :D.

We will be putting a post up in June detailing how to send us your rough draft and summary so please look out for that.

Feeling a bit more relaxed this year - despite my computer fan dying over Easter and me having to reset my machine last weekend in an unrelated 'crash' incident - honestly, my machine has more near death experiences than the lads - I've spent a number of hours reinstalling as I rely on a lot of non-standard apps.

I'm good to go on point one - 13,000 words and counting.

And I have a vague idea where my story is going. I really struggle with synopsis because things just occur to me as I write.

What happens if I say this and this and this are going to happen - and then when I submit in September I've changed my mind and they haven't?

Good work fiorenza, you are showing great resilience to keep persevering with all your computer woes.

You are allowed to edit and change things right up until the end (well Sept 23rd - only minor edits after that). The only stipulation would be that your artist knows of the changes - with enough time to make any adjustments that she would need. Communication is important if you're making changes that would affect the artist.

Hiya - thanks very much for explaining that :0)

Gvenanne and I did talk about how to work things last year, and I know more what I'm doing this year, having been through the process once, but I'm not assuming artist interest - I have an idiosyncratic take on what constitutes 'a plot' - most people think something should actually 'happen' :0)

Is THAT what a plot is - something happening, eh? Well - I'm a firm believer in the old adage - "Plot? We don't need no stinkin' plot!"

Really - all we need is the lads *g*

Having that much written already is amazing, congrats! And I have faith that you'll wrangle it into obedience.

Can I just say - 13K is excellent - especially given your machine's behavior!

And I definitely get what you're saying. I've had much better results just starting with a thought / scene and writing to see how they got there and where they went afterwards. I've been trying to do the "outline first" thing recently and it requires a LOT more time (which sadly is at a premium).

Now, you may have to rewrite sections - but I've found when that happens, I get a second wind because I then know what is happening in that section and excited to get it down (and terrified I will forget it if I don't do it fast enough, LOL).

So you sound like you're cooking with gas, as they used to say. Go, you! :D

Just on 60,000 words with a few more chapters to go but no one will cooperate with the plot at the moment. Have got some of the ending written, which ties up loose ends and explains things but the lads aren’t playing ball and are refusing to help me get there!

Oh dear. That's an astounding word count, congrats. I'm guessing you've already tried threats, bribes, and sicing Cowley and/or Macklin on them? Withholding swiss rolls or certain activities? Best of luck but I know you'll get them to cooperate.

You know what? It will come to you. You're in a good place, where you can put it down and let it simmer in the back of your mind for a bit, if it helps.
