Today is September 23rd, the deadline for final drafts from writers and rough drafts from artists. Remember writers, you still have tweaking time, but we do need to see that the story is pretty much complete. Artists, you have a little more time but you should have your rough drafts well under way and sent in.

If you haven't yet sent us your files and can't quite remember how to do that, just ask here :)

If we haven't heard from you by the end of the day, expect an email asking for an update. If anybody is having problems, drop us a line at prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com. We're here to help :)

Thanks for being part of this year's Big Bang, everyone. We're looking forward to so much new reading material and artwork!

Well, folks, that dreaded moment is quickly approaching -- we're a little over a month out, omigodI'mnowhereneardone and it's time to go over what happens in that month. This is not under a cut because it's all important.

So here we go:

I. The Deadlines

Friday 23rd September

Writer's final draft is due
While you'll still have a few days to tweak and polish, we'd like the writers to have complete, finished stories by this point.

Artist's rough draft is due
As the artists have less time to work on this than the writers, we only need to see a rough draft of their art at this point. What we're looking for is an indication that the artist is on track to finish in time for their posting date.

Artists and writers should all send their drafts to the friendly mods. [who really haven't pulled all their hair out yet] Further information about sending us these drafts will be posted closer to the deadline.

Tuesday 27th September

The posting schedule is sent out to artists and writers.

Saturday 1st October

Posting begins. Woot Woot Woot *\\\\o////*

II. What You Will Be Posting

Writers

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: your story.
You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like AO3, or on a website.

We only require that the story is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your story before your assigned posting date.

In the ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your story.
We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

Artists

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: the art for your claimed story, with any commentary you'd like.
You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like AO3, or on a website.

We only require that the art is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your art before your assigned posting date.

In the ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your artist's post.
We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

Writers and artists

Just a quick reminder that like last year both writers and artists will be making their own master posts to ci5_boxoftricks. But of course, as in previous years, writers and artists who would like the art included within the story should feel free to arrange to do so.

III. Some extra reminders / notes

We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

We will also be asking you about any dates in October when you would not be able to post so put your thinking caps on.

If posting in LJ, there is a limit of 65,000 characters per post. This generally works out to an average of 8,000 to 10,000 words.

A new 2018 Pros Big Bang Collection has been made available here (yeah, there). To be clear you are not required to post your story / art at AO3 but if you are interested in posting at AO3 we still have some invite codes left so drop us a line if you would like one.

And we ask that both artists and writers do not cross-post their stories and art to any other community before the end of October.

IV. And finally

As always if you have any questions, drop us a comment or an email (the address is prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com) and watch out at the comm for future posts.

Hi there to our writers, artists and vidders. Now that you've been matched hopefully you've been in contact with each other. Best wishes to you all in producing your finished product for our big reveal. :-)

Speaking of reveals - if you post your work to the Archive of Our Own, you can join it up to our Box of Tricks Collection. This year's collection has been set up, ready for later, and if you'd like to bookmark that, feel free. It's not obligatory, but it's handy-dandy way of making sure that your fanworks are easily found and related to the bigger picture too.

Our 2018 Collection

If you feel like browsing through previous Big Bang stories, then the main page is here:

Big Bang Main Page

If you'd like to add your story/art for prior Pros Big Bangs to previous years’ collections please feel free - the more the merrier. Just open your story in edit and scroll down to the “associations section.” Where it says “post to collections/challenges” enter one of Pros_Big_Bang_2010, Pros_Big_Bang_2011, Pros_Big_Bang_2012, Pros_Big_Bang_2013, Pros_Big_Bang_2014, Pros_Big_Bang_2015, or Pros_Big_Bang_2016, depending on which year’s collection you’re adding your story to. For our artists, now is when you get to claim the story you'd like to work on for the 2018 Pros Big Bang, and here's how you do that:-

First, click on the cut and read the story summaries. Not all the summaries have titles but they are all numbered.

Then, please comment to this post using the following format:

Email:
First Story Choice:
Second Story Choice:
Third Story Choice:
Fourth Story Choice:
Willing to pinch hit?:

While you will only be working on one story, giving us your top four choices will hopefully minimize the odds of our having to re-contact you as we work through the comments matching artists with stories.

The comments on this post are screened, so your mods are the only ones who will see them. If you have any questions, you can let us know via a comment. (Note that if you edit your comment, it unscreens it - so if you have to make a change to your comment, please re-screen it afterwards by clicking on its "eye" icon.)

We will send you the rough draft of your story selection and your writer's email addie ASAP.

Here be the Summaries )

Artists and Vidders sign ups

It's that time! The writers sign-up post has been up for a while, and now it's the turn of all our fabulous artists and vidders.

Please give the rules a read before you sign up so you understand what is expected of you. The mods are excited to see who's joining us for the 2018 Big Bang.

Rules For Artists:

1. You agree to create at least one piece of art or one vid for a Pros Big Bang story.

2. Collaborations between artists are also allowed. Just let us know when you sign up if you are planning on working with a partner.

3. The art may be an original illustration, title banner, photo manip., or whatever else strikes your fancy. The vid may be a reflection of the story or a teaser to entice people to read. Have fun with your project!

4. You’re free to create what you will for the art or vid, but we suggest that you consult with your writer before doing anything too explicit.

5. On your assigned date, you will make a master post for your art at this comm (the mods will provide a template for this post closer to the time). The art itself may be posted to, and linked from, your personal LJ, Dreamwidth, AO3, The Automated Hatstand, etc. Please do not post your artwork anywhere prior to your assigned posting date and please do not cross-post it to any other community before the end of October.

6. If you feel you have the energy and willpower to create artwork for someone else's story, as well as writing your own, then please feel free to sign up as both an artist and as a writer.

Sign ups open on 1st May and close on 31st May.

On 9th July, a list of story summaries will be posted anonymously. You will claim the story that interests you on a first come, first served basis. Once you have successfully claimed a story, we’ll give you the author’s contact information and the rough draft/outline of their story from which to work.

The due date for your artwork/vid is 23rd September. Your work should not be posted on a public forum at this time, but you must provide us with either a working link to the art or vid, or the art or vid file itself.

An assigned, staggered posting schedule will happen in October.

To sign up, please comment below with:

● Artist/Vidder name:
● LJ username (if applicable):
● Email address:
● Art or Vid, or both (if you know):
● Would you prefer to work on slash, gen or het/have no preference?:
● If necessary, would you be willing to pinch hit?

If you would prefer not to put your email address in the comment then please send the mods an email at prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com. Questions happily answered by email or by comments here.

We'd love to have you on board, whether you've done this before or you're brand new to Pros or to a big bang challenge. Come on, you want to do this! It's a blast.

ARTISTS AND VIDDERS - SIGN UPS START MAY 1!!

So warm up your computers, tune up your software, gather those screen caps and film clips and join the fun of the 2018 Big Bang! More information coming in a few days.

And writers - how's it going? Are your fingers still intact? Are the pads worn down? Are you wringing them a tad too often? Or are you cheerfully waving us away so you can keep busy? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Well, it's certainly been fun on this end... Doggie drama abounded (he somehow scratched his cornea, and it went downhill from there). But he's back home, cone and all, and beyond getting over the sedative, because he does not like eye drops :-( he's doing okay.

So, without further ado, it's time for the Rough draft requirements reminder :cue dramatic music:

As we are now getting to the midway point before the rough draft deadline on the 1st of July we thought this was a good time to post a reminder of the rough draft requirements.

I. A minimum word count of 6,600 words.
We're not going to be totally tyrannical about this. If you're only at 4,000 words, but it's clear you're well on the way to finishing, that works for us. But if you're only at 1,000 words, we have a problem. Talk to us and let us know how you are getting on. We don’t bite - hard. (At least most of the mods don't.)

II. A reasonably complete outline of any unfinished scenes
The outline can be as complete (massively detailed descriptions of every remaining incident in the story) or as brief ("insert sex scene here") as you like.

III. A reasonable confidence that you will be able to finish the whole story (10,000 word minimum) by the September 23rd deadline.
This last bit is the most important. Since it gets handed to an artist at this point, we'd like for the artist not to work on something that isn't going to get done.

IV. A short paragraph length summary/blurb that can be posted publicly on the comm for the artists to claim from.
This should give a good flavour of the story, but doesn't have to give everything away. You can see what people wrote for the last few years: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014.

Please also include a warning if one applies (e.g. for subjects like death, rape or underage sex) or, if the story needs a warning but you are worried about spoilers, you can let us know that you choose not to warn.

Lastly you don’t need a title at this point, we all know that sometimes this can be the very last thing that you write :D.

We will be putting a post up in June detailing how to send us your rough draft and summary so please look out for that.

Finally, as always, if you have any questions about anything please get in touch by emailing the mods at prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com.

Here's the post for anyone not able to sign up for the 2017 Pros BB challenge as a writer, artist, or beta, but who still wants to participate.

We’d love to have you as a cheerleader!

In fact, even if you are signing up as a writer, artist, or vidder, we'd still love to have you as a cheerleader! :-)

A cheerleader is someone who participants can bounce ideas off. Someone who can pre-read a partial draft and give a sense of whether it's working. Someone who can break out the pom poms and, well, cheer a writer on to the finish. It's an important job; writers, artists and vidders need all the encouragement they can get, and those pom poms aren’t going to shake themselves! So join the lovely lads above and get shaking! (Leg warmers and leotards optional.)

If you'd like to be cheerleader, just pop your name in a comment below, to let people know they can call on you for encouragement if needed. You can also pop into the weekly check-in posts (starting shortly) at anytime to offer encouragement, a shoulder to lean [or cry] on, or just to shake those pom poms like the fabulous cheerleader you are!

Get practicing those jumps, and GO PROS!

2. Stories must have a minimum length of 10,000 words. There is no maximum length.
3. Stories may be slash, gen, femslash, or het.
4. Any pairing is allowed, as is any rating.
5. AUs, Fusions and Crossovers are permitted but as it says in rule #1, the central story element must focus on characters from The Professionals.
6. You may write a story that is a prequel, sequel or companion story to a pre-existing story or stories you’ve written. However, the story/stories referred to must be available to read online and you will need to link to them when you post your story.
7. You are welcome to complete a WIP to meet the challenge as long as it has not been previously posted anywhere public.
8. Collaborations between writers are also allowed. Just let us know when you sign up if you are planning on writing with a partner.
9. Stories will be posted on an assigned date in October.
10. On your assigned date, you will make a master post for your story at this comm. The story itself may be posted to, and linked from, your personal LJ, Dreamwidth, AO3, The Automated Hatstand, etc.
11. We actively encourage adding stories to the Box of Tricks archive on AO3 to facilitate easy story downloads (we have membership codes available), but this is not required.
12. Please do not post your story anywhere prior to your assigned date and do not cross-post your story to any other community before the end of October.
13. We will create a master list of links and summaries at the community.
14. If you feel you have the energy and willpower to write a story and create artwork for someone else’s story, then please feel free to sign up as both an artist and as a writer.

Important Dates

Please sign-up to participate by March 1.

Your rough draft, full outline and story summary should be turned in by July 1. While we fully realize that a lot of us write right down to the wire and will continue to work on our stories until the September 23 deadline, Big Bangs are collaborative and our artists need this information to begin their work in turn.

On July 9, your summary will be posted anonymously for a participating artist to claim as a prompt. An artist will create, at the very least, one piece of art (title banner, illustration, manip, etc.) to accompany your story or a vidder may create a trailer for your story.

Your final draft should be completed by September 23.

Our posting schedule will begin in October.

To sign up

Please comment below with:
• Author name
• LJ username (if applicable)
• Email address

If you would prefer not to put your email address in the comment then please email us at prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com.

All that remains for right now is: Thanks for participating… and GO PROS!

We're Back!!!!! And just in time for . . .

The 9th Annual Pros Big Bang Challenge

For those of you who haven’t seen a Big Bang Challenge before, it’s a collaborative effort between writers and artists. Writers sign up to write a story with a minimum word count. Later in the process, artists claim a story based on an anonymous story summary and produce at least one piece of art to go with it. The art can be an illustration, a manip, or even a vid.

This year's word count is 10,000 to encourage more writers to dip their toes into the welcoming water. But please remember 10,000 is the minimum word count and if you would like to write 30,000, 50,000 or even 100,000 we will cheer you on all the way.

This is the time to think about that fic you started but RL got in the way, or the fic that just needs to be polished . . . or you just found languishing on a floppy disk. Hear the rally cry to join us!!!

And now for the schedule.............

Writer sign ups will start on the 1st February and run until the 1st March.
Artist sign ups will start on the 1st May and run until the 31st May.
Rough drafts are due at the start of July and the artists claims day will happen just after that.
Final stories and art are due in late September and posting begins in October.

And you can find the more detailed schedule on the ci5_boxoftricks profile page and on the left hand side of the main comm page.

Of course even if you don't plan on signing up, please do feel free to join the community. You can help by cheerleading, volunteering to beta, providing prompts, and generally joining in the festivities.

So fire up your word processor, sharpen your pencils, fine tune your Photoshop skills, gear up your vidding software and get ready for the 2018 Box of Tricks!
