The Weekly Check-in post... 13 days to go until rough drafts are due.

.

How's it going?

Already done and roughing out *next* year's Big Bang story?

Everything coming along nicely?

Pondering changing your name to Arthur and hiding out in Bognor Regis until the heat cools off?

Time to check in.

And, while you're at it, on a somewhat sillier note and IF you want to play, I was wondering if there might be a song or three that leap to mind when you think about your story.

ready to roll, just say the word!

And my song has been on my mind from the first day I started writing the story - Stand By You by The Pretenders.

I'm over the line! although there's still some writing to be done (though it's more or less outlined within the draft).

I went to print my 70 pages, and the printer said "no" - I managed to drain three ink cartridges, LOL.

(But the draft needs WORK. Big time.)

It doesn't have a song (although the fic was originally inspired by a picture). If it did, it would be in a different language, and speak of the pain of love... maybe. LOL!

We are making progress! Writing today in fact. (This is called "a break." Otherwise known as "procrastination". *g*) We are fine for the rough draft, but there is still an awful lot to write.

I"ve just asked EOS and she agrees with me: we are hopelessly songless. Although she's been quoting poetry in her section, apparently.... *g*

13 days to go ...

Not much progress recently though ILWB has done a lovely check on the first 4 chapters. Still need to re-write the first half of chapter one and that's niggling at me as I think I need to get much more written before going back. Still I will have a summary and an outline ready at the end of the month. Oh and the 4 chapters are 8,300 words so not doing too badly as the aim is around 12/13 chapters.

Stressing about the idea of having to write up a summary and outline since I cannot even write on the story this week with the girlchild underfoot, but we're going to Disneyland on the weekend, so there is fun to be had, if no writing!

I've got Bodie and Doyle ordering dinner at a restaurant, so at least they'll be fed while they languish waiting for me to return.

Songs...? I sing to myself all the time (literally, as Kat will attest to) but a song that's specially for Bodie and Doyle? Nothing springs to mind...will think on it.

I'm finished with a good, thorough rewrite. Now it's up to the editors (love you guys!) to take their red pens and pokey sticks and beat the crap out of this story to get it into shape. It's currently (gulp) 55,000 words.

My story is inspired/based on a verse of a song, and my title is the song's title. *g* I dont' mind saying what it is but I wasn't sure if I was stepping out of bounds. :) I actually like using song titles for story titles and have done so many times.

I always check as many places as I can to be sure my title hasn't been used before.

The song that entirely triggered my ENTIRE NEW PLOT FROM SCRATCH is (and honestly I don't think this will give much away) 'Die Another Day' by Madonna.

Yes. Seriously. Entire plot landed in my head in about ten seconds of listening (which was accidental in itself since I'd just downloaded it in a James Bond themes album...)

Lesson #1, never even contemplate giving any of your characters bronchitis... for you will then get it yourself! :(

In spite of all that, and with the timely brainstorming session with my beloved beta, I now have roughly 18,000 words and all my holes are plugged! (although there are continuity issues I will need to fix in the second draft)

I think I might just get this little sucker done on time rather than submitting a partial and a promise of completion.

As for music, well, I try not to think of music while I'm writing because then I just sing along and the lads are left there standing with their hands on their hips, glaring at me to 'just bloody get on with it already!' (everyone's a critic - my singing voice isn't that bad!)

Both my previous Prosfic efforts have been inspired by songs and this one is too, though I'll not say which song as that will probably give too much away;)

I should make the word limit for the end of the month, am on about 12,000 at the moment. Of course that's provided I don't go back over it and hack and burn*g* My beta is offline at the moment too and has been for a while so whether any of it actually works is debatable:P

"Already done and roughing out *next* year's Big Bang story?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! sorry....

I do finally have a whole story... a beginning, a middle and an end. And it's sitting at just under 21,000 words. (I'm going to pretend I didn't see the post about the 50,000+ word story.... show off! *g*) It still needs quite a bit of polishing (I think that sounds better than fixing!), but it is finally a story.

I've sent it out for a read and comments and next week I hope to get it to my kind volunteer beta - and yeah, I'm trying to butter her up!

Songs, hmm. I guess 'Hardly a Hero' by Levi Kreis.

I finally wrote my first new words on the bloody thing in far too long yesterday. I'm nudging close to 11,000, which means 4,000 to go for the rough draft deadline. No problem. (I hope.) Of course, I'm guessing the whole thing is going to be close to 30,000, so that's a lot of writing still to go.

A song that leaps to mind, huh? I'd have to say How Did It Come to This by, yes, Take That. You had to know it was going to be a TT song, yeah? :-/
ext_18392: Bodie and Doyle from the Professionals, standing unnecessarily close together. In suits. (grin)

Things are coming along. But not, er, coming along, if you know what I mean. I'm really awful at sex scenes.

My Big Bang theme song is definitely Ocean Breathes Salty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lzuXms01Xk) by Modest Mouse. It fits in clever spoilery ways that make me cackle whenever I hear it.

And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old
Well I don't know, I don't know, I don't know--I hope so.

*glances around*

*cackles*

Hmmmm I know I have said this a few times but at this point I reckon I am screwed. If something hasn't changed by the end of the weekend, well...............*hits head on keyboard*

[identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! (I know this is really late, but...) As it turns out, we now do have a song! *g* "Little Lion Man" by Mumford and Sons. There. Now I feel part of the group... *g*
