Well, well, well.   Today's the day, eh?   The finish line is well and truly in sight!

So, authors - let us know how it feels to have the finished draft submitted/about to be submitted.  Freeing?  Cause for a party?  Terrifying beyond all belief (surely not! :D)?

And artists - we're well on our way now, with our rough drafts submitted today, and from now until posting day to work on perfecting them.  Or maybe you're the organised type (*hint*  This would not be me....) - already finished so you can sit back and put your feet up with a well-deserved glass of something fizzy?

Feel free to use this post as a place to squee, flail, gibber, chat or collapse in a heap and wait for a good-looking agent to come around and feed you grapes and pet your hair.

Take a seat on this here couch...tell us all about it!

And can I also just say, on behalf of all my fellow modly types,  thank you so much to all who are playing, cheerleading and reading along in this year's Big Bang.  It wouldn't be anything without your participation and support.  We're grateful for so much enthusiasm, and very excited to see the results!   Go Pros!

For this week's check in post I thought I would go with a bit of light relief and share this fabulously funny and clever video called The the Impotence of Proofreading with you.

Little warning though, the language is very NSFW.

Lastly as always let us know how you are getting on! Are you are planning to run away to a remote island or are you celebrating already *g*.
[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
We're getting close to the deadline for the final story drafts, and I'm sure all of you, writers and artists, are at different stages. Some of you are done, some are doing that final bit of tweaking, and some, like your humble mod, are on that death march to finishing that final scene or that illustration or that vid.

For those of us still working, I thought I'd share one of my favourite bits of inspiration: The Little But Really Useful Guide to Creativity

So, how is everyone doing out there? Share your successes and your challenges!
[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com
Hello, fellow Pros lovers! Time is fast approaching for submission of final drafts. It's time for the weekly check in post. Feel free to give me an update on your progress. If there are any problems, drop me or any of the other co-mods a note and we'll get back to you ASAP.

I don't have anything brilliant to say, but I would like to ask if anybody needs any sort of help. I'd be happy to read something to give you my opinion or if you have a problem with POV, that's my strong suit so I can help with that.

Ask away!

I do have one link for all you artists or budding artists. If you've always wanted to try your hand at art and don't have or can't afford an expensive program like Photoshop (GIMP is free! Yay for open source!), here's a place to play: http://www.sumopaint.com/home/
[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com

Evening all!  (or Morning, Afternoon, Night...depending on where you are :D)

The deadlines for fic and art grow ever closer (la la la....I'm not listening...) and I'm just here to ask how you all are doing?   Writing, scribbling, painting, vidding - let us know how it's going.  And feel free to use the comments to ask for pointers, opinions, help with certain details, or simply just to flail and cry and share the misery! *g*

Please pop over to the recent 'What's happening next' post to check on the schedule for the coming month and find out how the submitting and posting process will progress.

Lastly, I have a couple of...er...useful(?) links for those of us not quite in the zen space about our stories and/or art yet...

Fanfiction Generator - enter a few words and it creates a whole story for you.   Coherence and well-thought-out plotline most definitely optional, but it's a hoot and a half and great distraction material!

Online Paint - I have lost HOURS arsing about with this.  I don't know why it's so addictive - something about the virtual paintbrush I think.  But see...this is the kind of masterpiece of the Lads (or at least one of them) that you could be creating...

Good luck all!

Welcome to your weekly check-in post!

I really wish I were the sort of person who collected links on creativity to share, but other than Csiksentmihalyi's idea of flow, I got nothin'.

If anyone's looking for a discussion topic, how about... hmm... how is the writer-artist collaboration going? Do you write (or read, if you're the artist) a scene and think that would look perfect illustrated? Do you somehow know exactly what song sets the perfect mood for the vid and captures the tone of the story? (Writer picks the song? Or vidder picks the song?) How's it all working out for everyone?
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Hi everyone, just a quick check in from me this week.

Thought I would share a couple of links. First to lots of articles about writing and then to the grammar girl site.

And as I don't have much to add this week, here have a pic of the lads *g*.

Other than that this is your chance to let us know how you are doing with your story/artwork/vid, ask any questions, and just generally chat away.
[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
[livejournal.com profile] milomaus has brilliantly suggested a poll for artists, to go with the one in the weekly check in for writers. So here you go, artists, and vidders, a place to discuss your favourite parts of your creative process, or what drives you crazy about it.

[Poll #1766597]
[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
It's time for our weekly check in post. Time for you to share how things are going, discuss problems you're having or solutions you've found. Our artists should feel free to join in as well.

And since we're all (hopefully) in the end stages of writing, whether finishing up that first draft, waiting for a beta, or working on revisions, I thought it might be time for a poll.

As livejournal appears to be actually letting me in for a few minutes I thought I'd go ahead and try to do this week's check-in post.

How's it going? Yeah, I know, you've already finished and are now lounging about eating bon bons while scantily clad cabana attendants (are there any other kind?) fan you with large palm fronds. I'm psychic, right? Right! :D

So, would you like to share some of your work with us? How about, say, a three to five sentence long sample? Something to whet your readers' appetites?

And I don't mean to exclude our artists but I do understand that it's tougher to share your work without giving the whole game away. Still, if you'd like to share something I'm sure we'd love to see it.

Oh, and of course if you'd just like to say hi and/or a few words about how things are going, that's great too.

So.  Busy week then!  Artists' claiming has been and gone, and everyone should have their author's rough drafts.  I'm excited - are you excited?  I'm excited!  *bounces*

It's time to get those cogs turning and clicky-fingers flexing, ready to open up your image software and go to work.  Plenty of time between now and the September submission deadline to work on that perfect accompaniment to your author's hard work.

I've put together a few resources that might be useful for our artists:

Photoshop tips, tricks and tutorials

GIMP (if you're like me and sadly can't justify the cost of PS)  tips, tricks and tutorials

VLC Player.  A free opensource media player that will play pretty much any file type and is very useful for making screengrabs from DVDs.   I do have a tutorial for screencapping that I made for another fandom, so if anyone would like that, just let me know and I'll upload it here.  ETA - the lovely [livejournal.com profile] snailbones  asked,  so I've reproduced the tutorial at my graphics comm here.

Fanlore page on vidding, including a link to an essay/tips on LJ

Image/screencap resources for Pros:

Daily Professionals on Tumblr
Screencaps of all episodes from Tauna's Slash Den
Caps from selected episodes at The Professionals Image Library

Please feel free to share any tips, tricks or resources in the comments - and don't be afraid to ask for help or advice.  We're privileged to  have some very experienced and talented artists on our list!

If any artist hasn't received their rough draft, or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM any of the mods, or email us all at prosbigbang@gmail.com

Happy pixel/paint/vid-fiddling - let us know how you're getting on!

Check in!

This is your weekly check-in post. If you've got anything to say, say it here!

I don't have any useful links this time, except to remind everyone that artist claiming of summaries begins tomorrow -- that's Thursday, July 7! Are you excited? I'm excited!
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Hi everyone. Time for the weekly check in and it is just a quick one this week as I know all the writers are taking lots of deep breaths and relaxing after getting their rough drafts in, and the artists and vidders are getting geared up to stake their claims very soon.

So I thought I would just share a few links to resources I’ve found useful and/or interesting at various points.

UK Number One hits from the UK Singles Chart - use the drop down menus to take a look at the years.

Footy Facts: results, stats and records - have found this useful for research in the past.

History of lesbian, gay and bisexual equality - timeline from Stonewall.

So do you have any really useful resources that you’d like to share, or is there anything you would like to find out about that a comm member might be able to help with?
[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
We're exactly one week from the deadline for the rough draft, so it's time for our weekly check in post.

So how are you doing? Are you confident you're going to make the minimum for the deadline? Are you way over the minimum word count? Are you completely done?

Anyone having any difficulties? If so, throw your problem out there and maybe someone can help you out.

We'd love to hear from all of our writers out there. There are two gentlemen from CI5 who are especially eager to start reading:

Thanks to The Daily Professionals from whom I nicked the pic.

How's it going?

Already done and roughing out *next* year's Big Bang story?

Everything coming along nicely?

Pondering changing your name to Arthur and hiding out in Bognor Regis until the heat cools off?

Time to check in.

And, while you're at it, on a somewhat sillier note and IF you want to play, I was wondering if there might be a song or three that leap to mind when you think about your story.

[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com
Well, writers, it's drawing up to deadline! We have twenty days until rough draft/detailed outlines are due. I know some of you aren't pleased with this, but I'm so excited! I'm happy with my story now, thanks to my sweeties [livejournal.com profile] ankaree and [livejournal.com profile] dawnebeth who have read my first draft and given me super suggestions.

So how are you guys doing? Anybody need some help? Toss out those questions and/or problems and we'll talk about them. You don't have to be specific if you don't want to. Or just let me know how you're doing. And if you're having fun. I'm having fun so I hope you are.

How be you in your writing world? *bg*
[identity profile] sineala.livejournal.com
Hi writers! Hi artists! How's it going this week? Anything interesting to report about your stories?

Here's something I've been wondering about, if anyone would like to have a discussion: do unexpected things happen in your stories?

I know that I can often start out with a scene planned out in my head (say, characters exchange a few angry words and someone storms out), and I have the exact idea of how to start it, and how to end it, and everything that happens in between, and yet when I actually sit down to write it I find as I am writing that, much to my surprise, Bodie has punched someone in the face in the middle of the argument. Which was not in the plan.

Does this sort of thing happen to you when you write? What do you do? Do you go with the flow? Or do you edit and stick to your original plans? Or does it not happen at all?

[Poll #1745502]
To help us all along,  and inspired by the F*** Yeah Fanfic Flamingo Tumblr   (NSFW) (thanks [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen  and [livejournal.com profile] mikes_grrl ) I've created a little meme generator...

Who better to ask for help with your story than the Controller himself - that's 'Mister' Cowley to you and me. *g*

For example:

Ask Cowley. You know you want to... )

Fancy making your own Advice Cowley?  Go here! :D
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Hi everyone. Time for the weekly check in and as usual I am jumping all around the place something my work colleagues are starting to find a little annoying *g* so I have slightly random post for you.

First, while I am sure everyone knows about this, I just wanted to link to the transcripts page over at The Hatstand. These are always a massive help to me when I am thinking about matching things up with the episodes.

Second I wanted to highlight the LJ comm [livejournal.com profile] little_details which helps writers with the research and fact checking. Well worth looking through the old posts here as well as potentially posting as the comm is watched by a large number of LJ users.

Next some Tips to Increase Writing Productivity and Hints and Tips for Distraction Free Writing. This is something I desperately need as I keep letting myself get distracted by the phone, the TV, spring cleaning, staring at the wall, everything *hangs head in shame*.

And lastly a bit of fun, how about a couple title generators to help you think of a title for your story, Title-o-matic and Random Book Title Generator. Clicking a few times gave me the options of: Haze Moccasin, Crystalline Blue, Icewater Series, Snow in the Memory, Hard Consort, and Stray Dog Kiss. *grins*.

Anyway now is your chance to check in and let us know how you are getting on, ask any questions, tell us that the suggested title Haze Moccasin fits your work perfectly, and so on.
