Rough draft requirements

As we are heading up to the end of April we thought is was a good time to bring up what you will need to have ready by the rough draft deadline on the 1st July .

A minimum word count of 10,000 words.
We're not going to be totally tyrannical about this. If you're only at 8,000 words, but it's clear you're well on the way to finishing, that works for us. But if you're only at 1,000 words, we have a problem. Talk to us and let us know how you are getting on. We don’t bite..........hard.

A reasonably complete outline of any unfinished scenes
The outline can be as complete (massively detailed descriptions of every remaining incident in the story) or as brief ("insert sex scene here") as you like.

A reasonable confidence that you will be able to finish the whole story (15,000 word minimum) by the September 23rd deadline.
This last bit is the most important. Since it gets handed to an artist at this point, we'd like for the artist not to work on something that isn't going to get done.

A short paragraph length summary/blurb that can be posted publicly on the comm for the artists to claim from.
This should give a good flavour of the story, but doesn't have to give everything away. You can see what people wrote for the last couple of years here, here and here.

Lastly you don’t need a title at this point, we all know that sometimes this can be the very last thing that you write :D.

At what point would it be best for one to admit it, if one doubts any ability to make the deadline?

I'm having health problems and am completely blocked in consequence. It's physically difficult to make a cup of tea atm, let alone try to write and the docs are mucking about with my long-term meds which means it could take months to get me back on an even keel. Sorry.

First I just wanted to say I am really sorry you are having health problems and I hope that you do feel better soon.

As for the BB, while of course we would love it if you carried on writing, we would never want you to feel worried about it or stressed in any way.

While we have posted a reminder now, there are actually still a couple of months left before that deadline on the 1st July. So the end of June, that is just before the rough draft deadline, would be a good point to see where you are and make that decision given that's the point at which our artists make their selection.

Thank you for the good wishes and - it may be a strange thing to appreciate, but I do - thank you for wishing that I "feel better" rather than "get well". :) Don't know whether the long-term meds bit clued you in or it was accidental, but with my chronic conditions it makes a difference to me. If that makes sense?

I've decided to keep going and see what happens by the beginning of June.

Whew, already passed the word count. I always have the most trouble writing a summary and gauging how many more scenes there will be left--but still have two months, so I'll get there.
