Calling all Big Bangers!

Now that the fun and games of the posting is over, and we're all lining up fic on our Kindles for devouring as soon as possible (or at least I am - being terrible at keeping up with reading in real-time given the fabulous pace of the posting *g*), your modly crew thought we'd pop in and ask for some feedback on the whole process this year.

We had a couple of changes in the way we do things this year, and we'd like to hear your thoughts on how those did or didn't work for you - how to improve on the process, or whether the changes brought you untold joy, the same way that a new set of weights makes Towser's eyes light up like it's Christmas morning. *g*

As a reminder, the specific changes were:

* The new, later and shorter signing-up window for the artists.

* Asking both artists and writers to make a master-post to the comm this year, rather than just the writer posting here with links to both story and art.

Of course, we'd also like your general feedback about the whole shebang too - so have at it! Let us know what you thought, agents - and let us know if you have any suggestions for the coming year :)

Hello

Well posting has started and there are already some fantastic stories and pieces of art at the comm.

And as it was a big change from previous years we just wanted to remind you that this year all artists will be doing their own post at the main [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks comm.

We decided to ask both artists and authors to make their own posts at the comm this year, in order to help artists get the feedback they deserve and to try to eliminate the issue of both parties trying to co-ordinate posting times.

Templates for posting at [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks were sent out a few days ago and we asked that both artists and writers post before midnight GMT on their assigned day. This does not need to be done at the same time so you can both post when convenient.

As always please let us know if you have any questions and thank you for taking part.

Hey everyone, just popping in with a last few reminders before the posting starts tomorrow \o/.

The first is that we got the posting templates emailed out yesterday but please drop a comment to this post or email us at prosbigbang@gmail.com if you didn't get them or have any posting queries.

The second is a quick reminder not to cross-post stories or art to other communities until the start of November.

Lastly just to say, on behalf of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] hagsrus, that if you decide to share your work with Proslib (and this is completely your choice whether you would like to or not) she would appreciate if you could send her doc files directly if you get chance. And please remember that there's a "Archive to Pros lib?" question included in your header.

What with posting beginning in under a week, it's time to say a few words about the collection at AO3. These will be much the same words that we have said in previous years.

You are not required to post your story/art to AO3, but we encourage you to do so. It lets us have a central location for all of the Big Bang fanworks, and also, as you probably know, all stories are easily downloadable in e-reader friendly formats; this is particularly nice for your fellow fen who have health issues or who just plain love their e-readers.

The collection for the current year is Pros Big Bang 2014. (Previous years' collections are accessible here.)

A couple of years ago [livejournal.com profile] sineala wrote up a little guide for how to post to AO3 for the Big Bang; the same directions apply, except that you'll want to make sure you're in the 2014 collection this year.

A couple of reminders:

1. In case anyone still doesn't have an AO3 account who wants one, let us know; we still have invite codes. Alternatively, the wait time for invites is currently under 24 hours.

2. If you have stories/art from previous years that you have not yet posted to the AO3, we have left the previous collections open for exactly this reason. Feel free to add your Big Bang story or art to the appropriate year's collection.

3. If you are planning to post in HTML rather than Rich Text, and (a) you are reasonably conversant with the features of your word processor and (b) that word processor is OpenOffice (it's free!), it may interest you to know that astolat has a set of OpenOffice macros for formatting italics/bold/etc and turning your story into HTML suitable for copying into a LJ or AO3 post.

Happy posting! Let us know if you have any questions and we will attempt to confuse you further.

Today is September 23rd, the deadline for final drafts from writers and rough drafts from artists. Yes, you still have tweaking time but you won't feel those grey hairs popping out if you're finished writing and just polishing. Artists, you have a little more time but you should have your rough drafts well under way and sent in.

If you haven't sent us your files and can't quite remember how to do that, just go HERE.

If we haven't heard from you, expect an email asking for an update. If anybody is having problems, drop us a line at prosbigbang@gmail.com. We're here to help.

Thanks, everybody. This is an exciting time, getting ready for posting of all that beautiful new fic and art. I know I'm excited.
[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com
As we are now getting ever closer to our deadline of 23rd September we thought we'd put up the details of what you need to do to submit your stories and art.

Writers

Send your completed story to the following email address:

prosbigbang@gmail.com

Please use the following naming convention for the file:

prosbigbang_yourname_storytitle.doc

We're expecting that your draft is complete at this point, though you can definitely tweak before your posting date.

Artists

Please send the rough draft of your art to the same addresses above. It's not necessary to have completed art by this point (though that would be lovely) but we would like to know that you're on the way to finishing.

Writers and Artists

Since our next step is to create the posting schedule , please let us know if there are any dates that we should absolutely avoid giving you.

We want to make sure everyone has a date they're comfortable with, and one on which they can easily get their story or art up.

We’ll do our best to accommodate any requests, but we’d like everyone to appreciate that we're aiming to spread the stories out as evenly as possible throughout the month.

Next steps

Once we have everyone's stories and art, we will be putting together the posting schedule. And when that's done, we'll be emailing everyone their posting date, along with details of how to create a post at [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks with links to whichever location you’ve chosen to post your story and art to (LJ, Dreamwidth, The Automated Hatstand, AO3, etc).

And Bob’s your uncle :)

Drop us a line at the address above if you have any questions or issues.

Thanks once again to everyone for participating. We can't wait to see everyone's contributions to the challenge.
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
There is now about a month to go until the final deadline so we thought it was about time to let you all know what to expect over the next few weeks. Apologies for this long post, we didn't want any of it hidden under a cut.

The Deadlines

Tuesday 23rd September

Writer's final draft is due
  • While you'll still have a few days to tweak and polish, we'd like the writers to have complete, finished stories by this point.
Artist's rough draft is due
  • As the artists have less time to work on this than the writers, we only need to see a rough draft of their art at this point. What we're looking for is an indication that the artist is on track to finish in time for their posting date.
Artists and writers should all send their drafts to the friendly mods. Further information about sending us these drafts will be posted closer to the deadline.

Saturday 27th September

The posting schedule is sent out to artists and writers.

Wednesday 1st October

Posting begins. *dances*

What You Will Be Posting

Writers

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: your story.
  • You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like The Automated Hatstand or AO3, or on a website.

  • We only require that the story is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your story before your assigned posting date.
In the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your story
  • We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.
Artists

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: the art for your claimed story, with any commentary you'd like.
  • You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like The Automated Hatstand or AO3, or on a website.

  • We only require that the art is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your art before your assigned posting date.
In the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your artist's post.
  • We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.
Writers and artists

Just a quick reminder that this year we are changing the posting rules slightly so that both writers and artists will be making a master post to [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks. But of course, as in previous years, writers and artists who would like the art included within the story should feel free to arrange to do so.

Some extra reminders / notes

We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

We will also be asking you about any dates in October when you would not be able to post so put your thinking caps on.

If posting in LJ, there is a limit of 65,000 characters per post. This generally works out to an average of 8,000 to 10,000 words.

A new 2014 Pros Big Bang Collection has been made available here. To find out more about AO3 take a look here and here. To be clear you are not required to post your story / art at AO3 but if you are interested in posting at AO3 we still have some invite codes left so drop us a line if you would like one.

And we ask that both artists and writers do not cross-post their stories and art to any other community before the end of October.

And finally

As always if you have any questions, drop us a comment or an email (the address is prosbigbang@gmail.com) and watch out at the comm for future posts.
[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com
To give our artists a heads up on the way they'll be claiming their stories, here's an outline of the way we'll be proceeding with the art claims.

The artist claiming post will go up on Wednesday, 9th July at 5:30 p.m. BST. (That's British Summer Time. You can use the World Clock Time Zone Converter to determine the time in your location.)

The claiming post will contain all the story summaries, under a cut, and without the writers' names. The post will be screened, so your friendly mods will be the only ones to see all comments.

Artists should comment to the post, and include their first, second, third, and fourth choices for story claims.

Important Note: This year we only have one more artist signed up than writers, which is a great balance. Following last year's principle, we will be assigning 2 artists to double up on just one lucky writer's story, and we will include an option for artists to state that they do or don't want to be considered for doubling up when we invite them to claim stories next week.

The mods will do a first pass through the list, starting with the first comment, and assign each artist their first story. If your first choice has already been chosen, you will be assigned your second pick.

We chose this method to ensure:

•that every artist gets a reasonable shot of getting a first or second choice, and…

•that artists who claim early will get their story assigned early, so they can get to work on art as quickly as possible.

Please note that once you have claimed a story, you'll be getting the rough draft of that story, so you don't have to work just from the summary.

Let us know if you have any questions, either in the comments here or by emailing the mods at prosbigbang@gmail.com. And thanks once again to our artists for volunteering their time and talent :)

.

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for the rough draft is getting ever closer and that your files are due by midnight July 1st (PST).

If you would like to take a look at the requirements for the rough draft and summary you can see them here.

And the details of how to send us your drafts can be found here.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to ask and good luck to everyone!

Here is the information on how to turn in your Pros Big Bang story draft and summary. Those of you who have participated in previous years will find that the submission information is entirely unchanged, but here it is again.

Please create two separate files. One file should contain your rough draft and the other your summary. We ask that you use the following naming convention:

prosbigbang_roughdraft_yourname.doc

prosbigbang_summary_yourname.doc

So if I were submitting, my files would be named prosbigbang_roughdraft_draycevixen.doc and prosbigbang_summary_draycevixen.doc.

File format: As suggested by the naming template, we would prefer to receive your files in Microsoft Word .doc format (NOT .docx, which is what newer Word versions produce by default; Word will still save .doc files, though). If .doc is not possible for you, we also accept .rtf (Rich Text Format) and .txt (plaintext).

Send your two files to the Pros Big Bang email address: prosbigbang@gmail.com

The deadline: Midnight, July 1, PDT

(Pacific Daylight Time is GMT-7 hours.)

If you need to familiarize yourself with the draft/summary requirements, you can find them listed here.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the above email address, or you can PM any one of the mods.

Once we have all your files, we will be removing identifying information and posting summaries for artist claims on July 9.

Good luck, writers! :)

As we are now getting ever closer to the rough draft deadline on the 1st July we thought this was a good time to post a reminder of the rough draft requirements.

A minimum word count of 10,000 words.
We're not going to be totally tyrannical about this. If you're only at 8,000 words, but it's clear you're well on the way to finishing, that works for us. But if you're only at 1,000 words, we have a problem. Talk to us and let us know how you are getting on. We don’t bite..........hard.

A reasonably complete outline of any unfinished scenes.
The outline can be as complete (massively detailed descriptions of every remaining incident in the story) or as brief ("insert sex scene here") as you like.

A reasonable confidence that you will be able to finish the whole story (15,000 word minimum) by the September 23rd deadline.
This last bit is the most important. Since it gets handed to an artist at this point, we'd like for the artist not to work on something that isn't going to get done.

A short paragraph length summary/blurb that can be posted publicly on the comm for the artists to claim from.
This should give a good flavour of the story, but doesn't have to give everything away. You can see what people wrote for the last couple of years here and here.

Remember you don’t need a title at this point, we all know that sometimes this can be the very last thing that you write :D.

We will be putting a post up in a few days detailing how to send us your rough draft and summary so please look out for that.

Finally, as always, if you have any questions about anything please get in touch by emailing the mods at prosbigbang@gmail.com.

As we are heading up to the end of April we thought is was a good time to bring up what you will need to have ready by the rough draft deadline on the 1st July .
