Title: Of Angels and Angles
Author name: [livejournal.com profile] tears_of_nienna
Artist name: [livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Characters/Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 36,000
Warnings: None needed.

Summary: Bodie hires a mechanic to keep his ship in one piece and gets more than he expected. After a few weeks, the Capri is running better than ever, but it won't do them any good if they're not alive to fly it. (Contains science-fiction and winged-Doyle. Please suspend disbelief before entering.)

Notes: This story started out as a dream: That was weird--Doyle had wings. I gotta write this down, man. It slowly morphed from crack-fic to something with a real plot, but it never would have made it there without help from certain awesome people.

I can't thank [livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil enough for her fantastic art and vid. When I clicked on that vid and heard the opening chord of the music, I was just about delirious with glee. Making a vid for such a crazy AU couldn't have been easy, but she did a fantastic job.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] squeeful for cheerleading, hand-holding, and good advice. I'll be your Sherlock any day.

And thank you to the mods of the Pros BB, [livejournal.com profile] przed and [livejournal.com profile] callistosh65. Thanks so much for putting this together for us!

Just starting the story. Did catch the vid and I'm thinking that you, Ms. K, missed your true calling. It was!

That vid is too much fun, and a perfect trailer for the story.

That vid had me cracking up! Wouldn't I want to see that as a preview in the movie theater...
The story sounds different and fun, exciting! Thanks to both of you! :)

Thanks! I tried to find something interesting for each one, and this story called out for space ships! The story is different but I admit, I thought it was great. I love a story that takes me to another time and place but the lads are clearly evident.

Wow. I could not imagine how in the world you'd pull off the whole winged thing, but I was actually pulled right into the story (to the point that I began to worry about the safety of those beautiful wings). ;-D

A very enjoyable story in the tradition of Echo Answers and Suitable Gravity.

Almost forgot!

And a great job on the cover art and video!

Kat, that vid actually made me laugh out loud a couple of times.

I read the first sentence and was hooked, finished it in one go. I particularly loved the matter-of-fact dialogue and the way you fit Doyle's wings into the story. The banner and the vid were the perfect complement. And now I know why Bodie reminded me a bit of Han Solo in the beginning! ;-)

Re: banner and vid. I'm so happy you liked them. Thanks! Bodie would be a great Han Solo.

I love AU, and I love science fiction, so that's two points straightaway. But Doyle with wings is such a perfect image, I love it. I wonder if he can be bribed with cuttlefish? LOL.

Lovely story. Thank you so much.

What a fun and compelling story!
I read about the wings and wasn't sure what to expect, but then completely forgot about them, when the story and universe pulled me in.
When the wings made their first appearance, it fit perfectly with the flow of the story (had been wondering why Doyle was avoiding being touched etc.).
Would love for this universe to continue!

And the vid was great! Had seen it accidentally a few days before, and was looking forward to reading the story belonging with it.

Thank you! You saw it when I messed up my posts. *bangs head on floor* Luckily the vids I did are just teasers so it really didn't matter if you'd seen it. *g* I'm glad it enticed you to read.

(Those wings really did it for me. Man, who know I had a kink for Doyle with wings!)

Started the story last night but knew it would keep me up way past bedtime so I dragged myself away. Just finished it though and I really enjoyed it. I like the wings and the Keepers and Bodie still hanging out with questionable people. And you laid out the steps in their relationship very nicely with the tension and the byplay. It was a terrific read.

"Please suspend disbelief before entering.
*grins* I did, and I'm glad!
The story caught me right from the beginning and and there is so much banter and excitement and adventure in it, that I completely forgot that I normally don't like sci fi. (Probably because there are no extensive descriptions of technical stuff and future world scenarios!)
And even the fact that Doyle has wings fits perfectly to this Bodie, who is very protective, and he does everything to save Doyle's wings, because he understands that they are part of his personality.
I think I like it even better than Suitable Gravity.
Thanks!

Just finished reading and that was a great AU story. I never would have thought I'd like a Doyle with wings, but I did! :D
Thanks a lot!

Oh, and the cover and vid (what a cool idea!) was as brilliant as the story! :D

This was a fun, engaging read. Great worldbuilding and sci-fi elements that fitted and didn’t make your head spin trying to understand them! Doyle with wings was totally believable and great to imagine:) A lovely story.

I'm not a huge fan of AU, but this story was just down right fun! Reminded me of Firefly and the Chris Wooding's Ketty Jay stories. You did a good job of slowly developing the relationship and trust between Bodie and Doyle. I really enjoyed this....may need to rethink AU!

This was a huge amount of fun and I enjoyed it tremendously. :-) I was so sorry when it came to an end and would love to see more adventures of these two. You did a fantastic job of creating this universe--thank you so much for sharing this lovely story. I really hope you'll do more in Pros. :-)

I thought your story was a pure delight to read and I wanted it to go on for ever and ever as I'm missing them already - I want to live in their world with them! I loved the originality of the universe they occupied and the various ideas within that universe e.g. the wings.

Wonderful stuff, thank you very much for writing it!

That was one fun read! Definitely a keeper and one of my fave Pros AUs ever. You have portrayed the lads with just the right amount of danger, competence, and understated affection. Well done and thanks! (I'll add my voice to those asking for more adventures of the lads in this universe.)

A fantastic story. You make the world building look effortless, and sign of the great skill you have with it. And Bodie and Doyle are totally in character, in spite of Doyle being a winged alien.

All I can say is Wow!!! That hit all my buttons at once: sci-fi, wings, first time sex, thriller-type plot and beautifully written as well! It goes straight into my 'all time greats' folder alongside Suitable Gravity as favourites for ever, and I will definitely be re-reading again and again (and again). Thank you so much for this fabulous story.

I can't seem to find a way to comment directly on the lovely cover and vid so please pass on my appreciation!

A very late comment to say how much I enjoyed this! I love AUs, and I adored this universe you created and the whole set-up with B&D... and no need to suspend disbelief, your winged-Doyle was absolutely beautifully done and fitted perfectly!
Thank you!
