Hello!

We're in the home stretch now. I'm sure some of you have long since finished and are just wondering why it isn't time to post already. Others of you are frantically staring at the clock, whimpering at the loss of every second you're not able to spend beating your story, artwork or vid in to shape, preferably with a cricket bat.

Whether you feel the need to gloat a little (go ahead, you've earned it) or to wail in to a sympathetic ear, now's your chance.

+++++++++++++++++++

Oh, and I know you're basically past this point already, but I thought I'd mention a couple of simple writing tools I find handy.

Bubbl is a really simple way to map out and connect story ideas... yes, that thing most of us have been doing on paper for years.

Focus Booster is a lovely little free pomodoro timer that can be used to set to focus on time to get some writing done. While there are a lot of versions of pomodoro timers available, I particularly like this one for being easy to adjust and for sitting in the corner of a document as I type my fingers to the bone. *cough*

Apologies for the late check in time this week Agents - don't know where the time has gone! I need a Betty of my own to organise my life. Wonder if Cowley would spare her... :)

How's it all going then? Very much looking forward to seeing what everyone's come up with - not long now!

Feel free to share any progress, triumphs, panics or questions in the comments below. Better out than in, as Cowley's ageing aunt used to say. Probably.

Under the cut are a couple of hopefully inspiring images to be going along with :D

Hi everyone! This is the weekly check-in post for the Pros Big Bang.

Sadly, I don't have any exciting pictures or links for you this week, but if you have anything to say, here's the place to say it, as you probably know by now. How's the writing and/or drawing or vidding going? Comments, questions? This is the post for it!
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Hey everyone and welcome to this week’s check in post for the Pros BB.

As always this is your chance to chat about how you are getting on with your writing, drawing, vidding and anything and everything else. Or if you have any questions that the comm can help with them just let us know in the comments and I just know someone will be able to help.

And for anyone who would like to be hugely distracted for the rest of the day I have a couple of links for you.

The first is this random story generator........here have a sample of my story :D

Before he could come up with any reasonable ideas, Doyle was interrupted by eight clueless elephants that were lured by his sandwich. Doyle shuddered; 'Not again', he thought. Feeling displeased, he randomly reached for his ninja star and skillfully slapped every last one of them. Apparently this was an adequate deterrent--the discouraged critters began to scurry back toward the lemur-infested moor, squealing with discontent. He exhaled with relief. That's when he heard the Ford Capri rolling up. It was Bodie.

And the second is the always deadly and time consuming TV Tropes. I’ll see you all in a few hours.

Hello, gang! It's time for the weekly check in post. Things are ramping up as time moves forward. I hope everybody is working hard on their stories and/or art. I've been playing with my art assignment and looking forward to the big posting. My artist has also been sending me pretties to admire. All of this reminds me that in October we will have new fic and art! *kat does happy dance*

So... Does anybody need any help? I'd be ready to read your rough draft and give my opinion, or do a bit of editing for you. I'd look at any art that you might feel needs an eyeball cast over it. (Gosh, that sounds creepy!) Casting eyeballs aside, how is everybody doing on their Big Bang assignments? Speak to me! *looks around with puppy dog eyes*

And speaking of puppy dogs...

doyledog

Hmmm... I don't see any pics of Bodie with a dog so here's something to make you smile:

Look what I found!!!

****************************************

If you are a participating writer or artist in the 2013 Pros Big Bang and do not yet have an Archive of Our Own membership but would like one, please contact me with an e-mail address (the archive will send the membership link to you). You can do this by leaving your e-mail addie here or by sending it to me via PM.

To be clear, you are NOT required to post your Big Bang story or artwork to AO3 in order to participate in the Pros Big Bang.

Still, we encourage this action because all stories loaded to the AO3 are automatically available for downloading for electronic readers in MOBI, EPUB, PDF and HTML formats and because the stories and artwork can be gathered together in to Pros Big Bang collections such as the ones for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

2010 Pros Big Bang collection

2011 Pros Big Bang collection

2012 Pros Big Bang collection

The NEW collection for this year, 2013, will be located here

IF you’ve already posted your story/art for prior Pros Big Bangs to AO3 but forgot to add it to the previous years’ collections it is never too late and it’s very simple to do so.

Just open your story in edit and scroll down to the “associations section.” Where it says “post to collections/challenges” enter either Pros_Big_Bang_2010, Pros_Big_Bang_2011 or Pros_Big_Bang_2012 depending on which year’s collection you’re adding your story to and be sure to save your changes. Actually, when you start to type, predictive text should fill in the rest, just be sure to pick the right year.

A big hello and welcome to our latest check in post. I thought I would start this post with links to a few sites that have some great stuff on them:

Daily Writing Tips

Inspirational art quotes from famous artists

Writer's relief links roundup

TED talk by Andrew Stanton, The clues to a great story

Oh and here have a little cartoon as well *g*.

And of course this is the chance for all writers and artists to let us know how you are getting on with your drawing, vidding, photoshopping, planning, writing, editing, plotting, and more, ask us any questions you have, and just generally chat away.
[identity profile] sineala.livejournal.com
Hey, Pros Big Bang participants! As you might have guessed, it's another weekly check-in post!

I think by now you know what to do here. Got questions? Got story problems? Want to tell everyone how you are done with a draft at last? Got something you just want to say? Comment away! :)
[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com
Welcome to your regularly-scheduled check-in post!

How's it all going, then? As ever, please feel free to use this post to cheer, cry, flail, boast, yell for help, ask questions, rock back and forth clutching a teddy bear, get smug over how ahead you are with your story. Anything really - just let us know how you're doing!

The Lads are on hand to offer a bit of support as usual...

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com
This is a reminder that the deadline for Artist and Vidder sign-ups is the 31st of May. We have some really great people signed up, but there is always plenty of room for more. If you haven't yet signed up and would like to be involved, please check out the Sign-up Post.

Graphics, videos, manips, macros, original art, animation...whatever you can think of, everything's welcome - so please do consider coming along to play with us and the Lads

****************************************

As to the rest of you, it's that time again... CHECK-IN!

How's it going?

No, really petal, weeping copiously in to your Bodie or Doyle shaped pillow while drinking heavily is a GOOD sign... well, that's what Vic always told me. *nods*

So, would you like to share a bit of what you're writing with us?

Perhaps just 3-5 tantalizing lines? After all, we don't want to give too much of the game away before the artists get to pick a story based on your anonymous story summaries.

If not so inclined, PLEASE feel free to just check-in and ramble away to your heart's content anyway. :D

Hello, all! This is your friendly weekly check in post. How's it going? Anybody need a gentle push? A boot in the bottom? A hug? I'd love to hear how your writing is going. Bounce your questions off me. I'm here for you.

And on that note, I shall leave you with some inspiration. I made this messing about.

Hello and welcome to the check in post *waves at everyone*.

Just a quick post from me this week and as I am rather addicted to my links I thought I'd share a few with you. So here are links to some resources that I've found useful in the past, either Pros related or more general. We have shared some of these in previous BB's but I hope that you find them interesting.

VADS - the online resource for visual arts

A history of London Tube Maps

Brixton History

Museum of London

History of Wimbledon

History of the Metropolitan Police

[livejournal.com profile] little_details - LJ fact-checking community

And a couple of specific Pros' resources:

Internet Movie Firearms Database – Professionals section

Internet Movie Car Database – Professionals section

And if you have any useful reference sites / resources then let us know in the comments as I we'd all love to see them.

And as always let us know how you are getting on in the comments, whether you are thinking, planning, plotting, writing, beta-ing, editing, cheerleading, or, like me, just waiting eagerly.
[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com
Check in time again, Agents! Crikey, the time really flies when you're flailing about in a panic about your word count having tons of fun, eh?

Writers - the rough draft deadline approacheth. Slowly, obviously, as it's not until 1st July, but still. A goal to aim for! How's it all going? Let us know how you're doing in the comments.  And as ever,  feel free to ask for help about anything, vent some frustrations, or do a little happy dance at how swimmingly the lads are getting along :)

Artists - Even though you don''t know which story you'll be working on yet, maybe you've had some thoughts about what style you'll be using this year?  Have you decided to change your medium, try something different, or been inspired by another artist to dip a toe into a technique you haven't used before?  What are your dream plot points/characters to illustrate or vid?   Any tips for other artists taking on the Big Bang challenge?

Betas/Cheerleaders - how are those pom poms?   Buffed up and ready to shake at a moment's notice we hope ;)  And we imagine the Betas' red pens are raring to go...in the most polite and constructive possible way, of course ;D

As ever - any questions/comments/pleas for emergency wine and chocolate are welcome either in the comments here or by contacting the mods at prosbigbang@gmail.com.  Our friendly and professional operators are standing by to take your call...

Well.  Maybe not so professional.  But they are friendly!
[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com
I think by now you know what to do and how to do it... if so inclined. :D

For those of you still struggling with plot (elements) here are a few helpful *cough* story idea generators from Archetype:

Plot Scenario Generator

Character Generator

Everyday Problems Generator

And I'm throwing this in because it's one of the best of these I've seen:

The Elffetish DIY Bad Slash story generator

Hello Agents!

How's the big bangin' going?  On track?  Lots of ideas?  Ticket booked to Timbuctu?  Let us know in the comments :)

And for that added bit of encouragement - here are some pictures of our Lads looking smiley-happy or just generally...er...enthusiastic about everything!

Hey, Pros BB writers! How's it going?

I'm afraid I am out of inspiring and/or amusing writing links, so I'm just going to throw the comment section open here. By my count there's exactly three months to go until the rough draft deadline (July 1), so... anyone got anything they'd like to talk about? Writing woes? Writing joys? A large number of words? Talk about it here!

*waves hello to everyone*

A big hello and welcome to our latest check in post.

And I thought that for today’s post I would break out the ticky boxes :D to find out how you all are getting on.

[Poll #1904607]

And lastly, as always, let us know how you are getting on, ask us any questions, or just chat about anything you like in the comments to this post *g*.
[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com
First, a little housekeeping business.

While it is not required, we actively encourage our Big Bang participants to post their stories and artwork to our Big Bang Collections over at Archive of Our Own. There will be detailed instructions closer to posting time.

All stories loaded to the AO3 are automatically available for downloading for electronic readers in MOBI, EPUB, PDF and HTML formats which is particularly beneficial to many of our fen who have health issues.

So, if you've signed up for our Big Bang as either a writer or artist, and do not yet have an AO3 membership, please let me know as we have some to hand out. This way you can begin familiarizing yourself with the site by perhaps loading older or, for that matter, current work to your account.

All rightey then, let's check in!

[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com
Hello, BB folks! This is your friendly weekly check in post. I'm here to encourage you as you write your epic. Any questions? Any problems? I can celebrate with you as you make progress, or I cry with you if you need me to. *bg* Really, I'd love to hear from folks about your progress. It's not too early to be writing. Heck, it's fine if you're on your first page or if you're finished. :)

Me, I'm through my first draft. Keep in mind my first drafts are more like filled in outlines, with everything I've considered tossed into the mix. I feel sorry for the long-suffering [livejournal.com profile] dawnebeth who is brave enough to read my first ramblings. She is a woman of substance.

So here's some encouragement and/or eye candy.

Welcome to your check-in post for the week! There's seventeen of you writing in the Pros Big Bang, and the artist/vidder signup post is still open! (The beta and cheerleader posts never close! We like to be encouraging as long as possible.)

How's it going this week? Have you got your ideas? Have you got it all planned out? Have you started writing yet? Talk about anything Big Bang related in the comments!

I don't have much in the way of motivational links to offer you other than one link that contains links to a great many things -- Ultimate Writing Resource List. That should keep you busy for a while. I found it on Tumblr, and even if you don't do Tumblr, you might enjoy checking the Daily Professionals Tumblr every so often, as it's full of great pictures.
