Hello!

We're in the home stretch now, oh yes we are. \o/

I'm sure some of you have long since finished and are wondering why it isn't time to just post already.

Others of you are frantically staring at the clock, whimpering at the loss of every second you're not able to spend beating your story, artwork or vid in to shape, preferably with a cricket bat.

Whether you feel the need to gloat a little (go ahead, you've earned it) or to wail in to a sympathetic ear, now's your chance.

Hello, fellow Pros lovers, writers, artists and cheerleaders. It's almost time! OMG! I'm so excited!!! We have less than a month before final drafts from writers and rough drafts from artists are due. *bounces* Check out all of the requirements HERE.

So this is the weekly check-in post. Now is the time to ask me any questions or let me or any of the mods know about any problems you're having with your story, the deadlines, art and/or the price of tea in London. *bg* I'd love to hear from everybody.

Does anybody need a set of eyeballs on their story? I can give it a read if you like. Artists, everything progressing nicely? Talk to me! I feel so alone if nobody talks to me. LOL!

In a month from today, we shall have our first new, shiny and amazingly fantabulous Pros story, with more to come throughout October. Life, she is good. :)

Get your weekly checking-in here! How's it going, writers and artists?

If you need some help making it through your drafts -- or if you just want to procrastinate by reading things on Tumblr -- there are some pretty good posts of writing resources here, here, and here. That'll keep you busy!

Another week, another check-in! How's it going, Big Bang writers and artists? Story drafts done? Art drafts done? Started? Everything going well?

Share your progress in the comments!
[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com
So, how's it going?

Have you finished writing your story/creating your artwork?

Got that rough draft or first sketch/images/clips nailed down?

Think you might possibly do something with the letter Q? Just me? Riiiiight...

Alternatively, perhaps you'd like to chat about your creative necessities. No, I don't mean the OED, Photoshop or your lovely coloured pencils. I mean the REAL necessities, like tea, tea and, well, more tea, margaritas, single malt or even the real hard stuff, sherbet dabs and pixie stix. Do you have to wear your lucky socks? Have to sing along to Ying tong iddle I po? Can you only write at a computer with a northern exposure?

C'mon, you can tell us. :D

Hello, my friends. I hope all is going well with your writing. Chime in if you have any questions or problems. Artists, I'd love to hear from you about your story and how your endeavours are going.

I've got a link to a site that asks grammatical questions. Yeah, exciting, I know. But I figured you might want to play to see how your skills stack up. http://www.playbuzz.com/jonb10/do-you-actually-know-english

And as always, it's these boys that inspire me and I hope they inspire you as well.

Check in! Check in here! How's it going?

This post is also your reminder that there will once again be a Pros Big Bang collection on the AO3; if you have no AO3 account and would like an invitation code please contact us and we'll get you one.

The subcollection for this year's works will be here: Pros_Big_Bang_2014.

If you have works from previous years that you have not yet uploaded, or if you would simply like to browse everything that's been done, you can view all of the previous collections here.

Happy writing/drawing/vidding!

Welcome to the first weekly check-in post since the author/artist match up!

Now that you all know who you're working with, how's it going? Writers, how are the drafts going? Artists, got any art ideas starting?

Talk amongst yourselves here!

*waves* Hello to everyone and welcome to this week's check in post.

As we now have just under a month to go until the writer's rough draft deadline I wanted to start out with something hopefully no one will be needing: 10 types of writers block and how to overcome them.

And in fact here's a link to the other writer's articles on io9, I particularly liked the one about torturing fictional people :).

Next here is a tumblr with collections of links and posts about writing: WriteWorld.

I also wanted to share this tumblr post with pictures to show you the different types of fanfiction. Click the pictures to see bigger versions.

Finally as always this is your chance to let us know how you are getting on, ask any questions, and generally chat away about the BB :)

Hello, all! I'm here to check in with all of our fabulous writers to see if everybody is working away on their stories. I know I'm anxiously awaiting posting time. I love seeing all the wonderful Pros fic and art and vids that are posted in October, and this year will be as terrific as the past years have been.

I'd also like to remind all of the artists and vidders out there that the sign up deadline is quickly approaching. May 31st is the last day you'll be able to join our merry band as an artist and/or vidder. Please go to this post to sign up. We'd love to have you.

Anybody have any questions? Stuck on your story? Finished? Let's hear from you so I know you're all out there and I'm not all alone. You don't want to see me cry. *beg*

Thanks!

I know some of you are already finished and others are still trying to pin down a plot idea (*waves*) but you're all welcome here. :D

How's it going?

If the answer's not well, take a few calming breaths. This is all supposed to be fun, right? Right!

What's 15,000 words anyway? A mere 150 drabbles.

Hey, you still have 125 days so that's only 120 words a day even if you haven't written a single word yet.

All right, so you're supposed to have a 10,000 word rough draft by July 1 -- well, that's still under 244 words a day if you start now and think how you'll be able to cruise along between then and the final draft deadline.

We all know it doesn't quite work that way but it is doable. Yes, it is.

******************************

As an aid to making the most of smaller blocks of time, I'd like to recommend a useful tool.

Focus Booster is a lovely little free shareware pomodoro timer that can help you learn to make the most of the time you actually have available.

While there are a lot of versions of pomodoro timers available, I particularly like this one for having easily adjustable work and rest intervals and for how it sits in the corner of your document as you type your fingers to the bone. :D

It's a beautiful weekend here in sunny Blighty - just right for imagining the Lads strolling along in the countryside enjoying each other's company. Or handbrake-turning round corners and taking out dangerous criminals. Y'know...either one. *g*

Don't forget that the Artist Sign-up Post is now open for business, and will stay that way until 31st May, so if you were thinking of joining the fray and having a crack at some Big Bang art or vidding - now's the time! We already have 17 fabulous artists signed up, which is SO exciting, but there's always room for more!

Feel free to tell us how you're getting on with your story. Or if you're an artist, perhaps you're thinking about the style you'll use in you art when the stories are chosen? Questions, comments, wailings for help or jumping for joy - the comments are open for all!

And if you need any inspiration, the Daily Pros tumblr is always rife with pictures, gifs and screencaps - just waiting to kick off that next idea :)

Another week, another check-in post! Writers, how's the writing going? (Artists, don't forget this is the time to sign up! Come on, you know you want to illustrate some fic!)

While I'm here, I thought you might enjoy Pixar's 22 Rules of Storytelling. It's got some helpful advice!
[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com
Reminder first:

ARTISTS' SIGN-UPS IN THE MONTH OF MAY!

Oh c'mon, admit it, you've been dying to spend three months drawing Bodie's right eyebrow, we ALL know it. :D

LOOK FOR THE SIGN-UP POST TOMORROW!

As to you writerly types, it's that time again, time to brag about how smart and talented your story is, how well it's doing in school... well, at least it's well mannered... or has a face only you could love. CONFESS ALL!

Welcome once again to the weekly check-in post for the Pros Big Bang! Feel free to discuss your progress in the comments! (Or convince me I need the new DVDs. Whichever.)

Also, because I for one enjoy collecting tips on writing, please enjoy the meta post Some Exercises on the Craft of Writing that I found a few months ago -- it is fandom-related, but not specifically Pros-related. Maybe some of them will be helpful for you!
[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com
Gosh the time is zipping by. How is everybody doing? Is everyone distracted by the new shiny DVDs or encouraged to write more? What about all those gorgeous pictures we're seeing? Those lads are so darned pretty it's easy to look and look and forget to write.

But that is not allowed. We need more Pros fic to keep ourselves happy. So in order to tempt you even more into being distracted writing faster, I give you something every few people can resist: a boy and his dog.

Feel free to let me know how things are going on your end with your story.

Greetings, Pros Big Bang participants! It's another week, and that means it's time for another weekly check-in post. Feel free to talk about anything you want to talk about (related to the BB, that is) in the comments!

I know we've linked it before, but one site writers may find helpful is Written? Kitten!, which features a text box and a picture of a kitten. Every hundred words (or whatever number you like), you get a new kitten picture! Even if you have used the site before, one thing you may not know is that it's not just pictures of kittens -- you can customize it. So if you don't like kittens, you can have puppies, or whatever else you want, by changing the word(s) on the end of the URL there. (It searches by Flickr tags, apparently. I don't think there's any Pros, alas, but maybe you'll have better luck than I did.)

So, how's it going?
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Hey everyone and welcome to this week’s check in post for the Pros BB. This week I have some inspiration for you in gif form :)

All of these gifs have been created by ramesesniblickthethird over on tumblr and you can find them all, and many others, by following this link.

And massive thanks to ramesesniblickthethird who gave me permission to repost these over here on this post.

Find the rest under the cut )

And as always this is your chance to chat away and let us know how you are getting on in the comments, whether you are thinking, planning, plotting, writing, beta-ing, editing, cheerleading, or, like me, just waiting eagerly.

Hello?

I'm not quite sure why I'm here. Some nice ladies told me I was supposed to make a post here inviting people to "check-in"... whatever that is.

Oh, sorry, I should explain, I have amnesia. Yes.

What? Oh, they tell me that along with several of the rest of you I've signed up to take part in something called a "big bang"... whatever that is.

I keep telling them I have amnesia but they seem to be having difficulty processing that fact... perhaps they have amnesia too?

What was that?

Bugger, they're not buying it. *pouts* All right then. *rolls up sleeves* I guess it's time for a poll AND to check-in as well, if you'd like.

Hello, fellow writers and Pros lovers! It is the weekly check-in post. This post is to enable you to let us know how you're doing. We refuse to allow panicking so let's hear about all those words you are putting to screen or even paper. Hey, I'll take whatever I can.

How about a line from your story? Don't worry if you end up not keeping it or editing the daylights out of it. A taste is a good thing. Out of context gives everybody something to think about. *beg*

Here's a bit from my story:

No one mentioned Bodie's interest in other men. Doyle wondered if the remark Bodie had made that first night he'd met him about shagging him was rubbish; made to throw Doyle off his game, to needle, to insult.

It hadn't worked. Much. Doyle kept his eyes and ears open, ready for the first opportunity to approach Bodie and give the sodding prat a piece of his mind.

Anybody else? Come on. I don't bite (much). Hey, it's a kink!
