Title: Ninety-Nine Yew Trees
Author:
draycevixen
Artist:
przed
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Characters/Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 33,249 words.
Warnings: None needed.
Summary: A secret from Bodie’s past has come close to killing him. With Cowley refusing to accept his resignation from CI5 and Doyle turning his back on him, Bodie has fled to his bolt-hole in the countryside to lick his wounds and try to work out what to do next.
Notes: I would like to thank
halotolerant for her invaluable medical beta and help with my timeline. Also, may I just say that if you want to know how to stab someone correctly for maximum damage, ask a doctor. *g* I’d also like to thank
ashley_pitt who was kind enough to answer some very general questions about hand therapy for me. Of course any remaining mistakes are my own.
I’d also like to thank Zed for the lovely trailer vid and of course
przed and
callistosh65 for not only hosting this party but for, well, just being bloody brilliant broads in general. *tips hat*
Lastly, I’d like to thank my flistees for their encouragement, their encouraging mockage of my story related angst and ND, Vic and Mikey in particular for bearing the brunt of it. ♥

Date: 2011-02-21 11:55 am (UTC)Hey now, generations of my family have run that hill, including me. *g*
When asking for expert help, I do try to do the research first as far as I can and then get them to look at the overall facts of what I've put together. Like with Halo, where what she did more than anything was check over and tweak my timeline for recovery (it's difficult to find out information on the accumulative affect of multiple injuries), check my sense of what drugs he'd be put on and modify my stabbing idea so it'd be traumatic but Bodie stood a chance of surviving. She also helped by pointing me in the direction of the NHS health portal. With my prof mate on campus, I took him my rough ideas -- tough to research medical results of torture -- and said "is this possible?" He adjusted my timeline as well. *g*

Date: 2011-02-22 05:06 am (UTC)It's good that you've got people you can ask about medical stuff like that. I don't even know anyone I could ask surreptitiously about stuff like that. Timelines are very important. *nods* Can't have them recover too quickly or too slowly!

Date: 2011-02-22 01:36 pm (UTC)No, it gallops. *g*
There are quite a few experts on all sorts of topics lurking about in fandom. In some fandoms they've even collected lists of expert knowledge amongst the fen. We have at least two doctors and several nurses in Pros. The prof. knows I write so he tends to enjoy my questions. *g*

Date: 2011-02-23 07:20 am (UTC)My other fandom tends to have other 'specialties' covered. ;) Perhaps you could tell me who I should pester in Pros regarding my bullet wound questions. ;)
That's great that your prof is so happy and willing to help out with your writing. :)

Date: 2011-02-23 03:22 pm (UTC)Well Halo, EOS or Dawnbeth should/might be able to answer your questions. If you need help with such a thing just make a post to this com and ask for it.

Date: 2011-02-24 07:05 am (UTC)I'm a bit reluctant to make an open post with my query because I like to keep the
gory...sordid... details of what's happening in my story a secret. ;)no subject
Date: 2011-02-24 11:45 am (UTC)The secret to dealing efficiently with the L_D crowd is to tell them where you've already looked and then break your question down in to clear parts. Actually, you can often find the answers you're looking for in their Tags.
I didn't mean open posting to asking a specific question so much as "does anyone know anything about the treatment of gun wounds?" or "anyone a chemistry major and could answer a question?" that sort of thing. *g*

Date: 2011-02-24 09:17 pm (UTC)*smacks head* I'm far too literal sometimes. *g* I have a very difficult time not revealing everything I know about things when asking a question. I sent a PM to Dawn and she's been extremely helpful.

Date: 2011-02-24 09:22 pm (UTC)Ah yes, I should have perhaps warned you that like TV Tropes and youtube it can be a real time sink. *g*
I'm glad to hear things worked out. *g* I make all sorts of strange connections. I got my information for NNYT about hand therapy when I remembered that the friend of an LJ friend is a hand therapist. Yeah, it's far easier to ask these sorts of questions from someone within fandom.

Date: 2011-02-24 09:26 pm (UTC)It's definitely easier to ask questions, particularly injury questions, of someone in fandom - you tend not to get funny looks then. *g*

Date: 2011-02-24 10:06 pm (UTC)I remember reading a question on L_D once where my first thought was who would want to survive that little lot?
Try explaining the wide spread love of H/C to a non-fandom person... yeah, apparently we're all sadists. *g*

Date: 2011-02-24 10:51 pm (UTC)If six bullet wounds is a "bad owie" then I propose that they're silly lads who are doing it wrong... or at least they need to develop a better sense of proportion. *g*
Hmmm... proportion, good challenge word.

Ooooh ta! I needed a second one and I don't think I've used that one yet.
