Snoopy Editing

Here's your opportunity to sign up to offer your services as an editor/beta.

If you haven't done this before, here is how it works: you sign up below to volunteer and if someone needs you to read their story, they ask you to help. You and your writer set your parameters, such as read for plot only, or read for grammar, punctuation, or whatever you both feel comfortable with. Beta readers and editors are important to most writers so that they can present a clean and polished final version of their story.

If you are a writer who already has a beta and/or editor, they don't have to sign up. This is only for folks who want to volunteer to help writers who possibly don't have anybody to help them out.

So, sharpen your pencils, dust off that ol' Thesaurus, and try to remember all that interesting stuff you learned in Composition 101!

Thanks for volunteering!

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read:
best is B/D slash, but also gen without any pairing. But no Main Character Death Story
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: Plot (I also discover sometimes logic errors like the change of cars without a stop on the drive etc.)
What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: depends on the volume of the story, I try three days and will tell if I need more.

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read: I am fine with any pairing and with no pairing. I read all genres, though AUs where CI5 does not exist in some form interest me less. I cannot commit to reading stories in which permanent injury, mental illness, or addiction is a central theme.
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: I can read for punctuation, grammar, word usage, sentence structure, and to a lesser extent, spelling. I am not an experienced author, so I can't offer sophisticated help with storytelling. I cannot do Brit checking or checking for period accuracy. I am happy to be an extra pair of eyes to compliment the work of the main beta reader.
What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: I'm not sure, but I would say no slower than 24 hours per 3000 words.

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read: Bodie/Doyle. Other CI5 characters but not Bodie/Cowley. Romance, Science Fiction, not Metafiction or crack fic. Case plots, crossovers depending on my access to the other canon.
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: American English Grammar. Characterisation. Plot holes. Language/style.
What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: Unless I have errands or other social committments or the fic section is long, usually about 1 day.

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read: I can read pretty much anything as long as it is not humour (crack treated seriously is great though), i am totally fine with gore/heavy angst/character death stories. Any pairing is good for me too.
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: Storytelling, plot/logic holes, characterisation, style, punctuation, POV/narrative voices. I cannot Brit-check or period-accuracy-check.
What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: Around two days for 10k words unless I get unexpected job emergencies.

IM (optional): I do discord. If you think you'd like something 'real time' email me and we'll arrange it

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read: I prefer B/D but I'm willing to beta any pairing, or a gen story. I'm generally unsquickable, but I will draw the line on some of the more extreme scenarios (explicit underage, some other sexual kinks). Ask if you're not sure.

What are your strengths as a beta reader?: Very strong on grammar and spelling. Good sense of natural dialogue; decent sense of pacing; I like action and think I have a grip on what makes a good action scene. While I've watched a lot of UK tv in my time I am not from the UK and am not a reliable brit-picker.

What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: Prefer to do about 10k in a week if you want detailed comment, 20k in a week if you want a read through for spelling and grammar. If it's a crunch I can try to be quicker, but these are the 'realistic' offers. :-)

What pairings/genres do you enjoy/are you willing to read: I'm a big Bodie/Doyle fan but open to most pairings and genres.
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: I like to think I'm thorough. I'm Irish but can Britpick.
What kind of turn-around time can someone expect from you?: Depends on RL at the time but a few days.
