Weekly Check In

We're getting close to the deadline for the final story drafts, and I'm sure all of you, writers and artists, are at different stages. Some of you are done, some are doing that final bit of tweaking, and some, like your humble mod, are on that death march to finishing that final scene or that illustration or that vid.

For those of us still working, I thought I'd share one of my favourite bits of inspiration: The Little But Really Useful Guide to Creativity

So nearly done! But I am now going to be away 20 Sept - 1 Oct, so please can you schedule me later on so I have time to get myself sorted out when I get back? Also, I'm not sure if saying that the writers' final drafts have to be done by 23 Sept means you'll need a copy by then? If so, I'll have to try & get it to you next week as I'm running a conference the weekend immediately before going away, so if I don't get it to you before 17 Sept, it won't happen.

Everything has just bunched together :(

As for all the rest, yes, we're asking you to send your draft by Sept. 23, so if you can get it to us before then, that's great.

We'll also be asking you to state your preferences for a posting date, so scheduling you after you're back and sorted shouldn't be an issue. (We have a few organized souls who are done, so filling the early slots shouldn't be a problem. *g*)

Good luck with getting everything done! Sounds like you've got a full plate and then some.

Two or three more pages to go is totally do-able. Good luck with those last words. (I think I'm about ten pages away myself, but hey, working under pressure is fun. Wheeee. :-/ )

I think merentha13 and I have a simular problem. merentha13 is out for work end September till October and I`m off 12th till 20th October.

You can definitely send things in earlier. You'll also need to pick possible posting dates that will work for you both. We'll supply the details soon.

My story is finished. It's been edited and is now in a final Brit edit, then it will be finished. I will not look at it every day! I will not read it and tweak it. Yeah, right. :)

Good News: HAZ 20,000 words! \o/

Not So Good News: Story is clearly going to need more like 25,000...

I had this massive overhaul of it after my moments of 'I hate this story and the horse it rode in on' and I think I've fixed the main issues but it's just... going to need so many more wooooooords *fingers numb with typing*

I know I am way past preaching to choir on this one here, but Long!Fic is HARD, so much harder than just a longer short!fic...

Heh, I'm still making sense in the fic at least. At least, I think so...

Ice cream? ;-) You know, it's easy to add in words if you get really specific with type, flavour and yumminess.

Bodie licked the chocolate swirl with nuts sprinkled on top, savouring the sweet, rich goodness on his tongue. (see, 16 right there!)

Hoorah for being over the minimum! And good luck with those last 5,000 words. I'm sure they'll work out brilliantly. (I know where you're coming from on this one. I just broke 32,000 words, but I think I'm going to need a further 3,000 to 5,000 to get to the end. At least I'm at the fun angsty part of the writing. 'Cause, ya know, I think angst is fun. At least when I'm inflicting it on my characters. *g*)

Hope Bodie and Doyle find both ice cream and love.

So here's a silly question - how do you know when you're REALLY done? I thought I was... (No major changes - don't panic 'bodiecuddle!)But every time I read through I find something else that needs a tweak, or a fix... how do I stop myself!! *g*

There comes a time when you just have to tell yourself it's done and post it. There's no magic to it. You gotta do it, is all. And stop tweaking! Once I consider a story finished, I try not to read it until AFTER I post it. I tend to read my fic after I post to get a feel for how it looks on that particular archive. Then if I see a typo, I'll fix it. I don't edit that story ever again. I move on. If you constantly go back to a posted fic, I think you get stuck. But that's just me. :)

Like Kat says, at some point you just have to trust that you've done the best you can. Do as many edits as you feel comfortable with, but if you really come down to picking very small nits, it's time to let the story go out into the wild on its own.

Things are going pretty well. I split the story into thirds (for posting, although I may not need to do that) and have gotten the first two thirds back in more-or-less final form from the betae. I just have to finish the third third to match some changes in part #2 (slated for next weekend), send that off for one last beta, then send the whole thing off to Non-Canon Reader #2 - AND THEN WE ARE DONE. (Which is good, 'cause I got RL friends showing up the weekend before.)

Came close to making myself sick - even left work early yesterday - but am a little better now and can see the glimmer of the finish line in the distance. WOOT! \o/

I can't say I love love the story - I'm too much of a perfectionist, and I wanted another full rewrite or two - but I've had a blast with the research. And now I'm looking into visiting my setting on vacation. :D

I'm finished the story and it's almost ready to send through, just a couple of things to sort out. I've been travelling for the last couple of months and have had very little internet connection so haven't been able to keep in contact. Hopefully I will be online for the next few days so will finish everything off and send it while I do have the connection.

RL will not be back to normal for me until around mid October so I'm hoping you can schedule my posting for after about the 20th October. If there is a problem with that please let me know so that I can re-arrange some things:)

I'm glad your finished! That's great news.

I'll make a note of your posting preference. We still have the post requesting your file and what date you prefer, so we haven't done a schedule yet but we're going to try and accommodate everybody.
