Title: In the Bleak Midwinter
Author: P.R. Zed [livejournal.com profile] przed
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] mollybrooks
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Characters/Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 44,442
Warnings: No warnings apply
Summary:
Doyle is uneasy when Cowley orders him and Bodie to draw out a Soviet blackmailer, but even he doesn't suspect just how wrong things are about to go.

Notes:
I owe enormous thanks to Callisto ([livejournal.com profile] callistosh65) for doing the first beta on the story, Draycevixen ([livejournal.com profile] draycevixen) for several invaluable plot consults and pointing out where the story was going awry, Halo ([livejournal.com profile] halotolerant) who did a final beta on the (almost) complete story and helped rid it of any unfortunate Canadianisms and dodgy assumptions, and m. butterfly for performing her usual impeccable copyedit. Any remaining mistakes or problems are mine own.

Huge thanks also to Molly, who produced such wonderful art for the story.

And finally, massive appreciation to Draycevixen ([livejournal.com profile] draycevixen), SC Fossil ([livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil), Norfolkdumpling ([livejournal.com profile] norfolkdumpling), Saintvic ([livejournal.com profile] saintvic), and Sineala ([livejournal.com profile] sineala), who cheerfully signed on as co-mods for the Big Bang and made the whole thing possible for another year. A huge hug to all of you! It really wouldn't have happened without you.

This is the latest instalment of my Comfort and Joy series. There are some references to and characters from the earlier stories, but it does stand alone.

Fantastic - more Comfort and Joy. It will be a while before I can read as I've yet to read beyond the first BB for this year but it will be taken out and savoured on a cold winter's evening.

And the artwork is fab.

Oh, this was lovely. Yes, darker, but in a believable way - you didn't make them suffer gratuitously! And fab art to go with it. Thank you both.

left you a comment on AO3 but I wanted to say here: thanks a lot for dragging me into this story and making me spend the entire afternoon reading like a mad woman! There was NO WAY I could stop until I got to the end. I honestly thought I was going to drive to Canada to beat you into a spot on the floor if you left me crying. LOL!

Fabulous. Loved it. Angst plus ten but what a ride! Well done, Zed!

The art fit into the story very well. I liked having those images whilst I was reading. Great work. This is the first time I've seen work from mollybrooks and I really like her style.

Fabulous addition to the Comfort and Joy series. I love the way you portray the Doyle's! And darker is good - at least IMHO *g* This had everything I love in a Pro's story - angst, Ray injured, Bodie in protection mode, misunderstandings and finally, reconciliation!

The artwork was very unique - I loved the style. I hope we see more of Molly in Pro's.

Thanks and "Well Done!" to both of you.

Very gripping! I didn't want it to end but wanted them to be OK. Perhaps I just want more in the mini-universe you've created? You could write episode fic with Doyle and Bodie in suits... And then of course we're all waiting for the zombie sequels...

I liked the way the fic was punctuated with pictures that expressed the emotions in that actual part of the text.

I've read them all now! *is proud and happy*

I think B and D in their new roles, combined with the Doyle family, would make for some interesting fics, exploring the decisions that have to be made by the likes of Cowley, and the problems of dealing with Whitehall. Also, you hinted at the changed relationship with the other agents and that's interesting too. So I think there's plenty of 'steam' left in this 'world'!!

So Evie, initially as an adorable child and later as a strong female OC, will 'ground' them and make them remember the real world when Whitehall leads them astray. I can see this being a whole second series - maybe with a new overall title to mark the change of role. I'm looking forward to it!

We could maybe friend each other?

*giggles* - being more than a little multi-fandom, I don't even try to friend all the people I meet in comms unless I either meet them in 'real' life or start interacting beyond the demands of comm-chat. You are, or were, in my address book because I needed help with something or other in last year's BB. Now I have a reason to chat with you!!

A wonderful story, I really enjoyed it. Now I need to go back and make sure I've read all the others in the series!

I do hope you will continue to write in this series, carry on with the lads in their new roles, it would be very interesting to see how they get on and you portray them so very well.

It does! And takes them into such a different view their lives and their future. I'm glad you will be continuing:)

Aaaaaand!!! Finally I've read it *g*

I enjoyed it hugely, as I knew I would. I do love the Doyle family you've created, so I'm quietly hoping you find more things for the lads to do in their new roles, but if you don't, this is a lovely and satisfying place to leave them.

The story was fabulous - enough angst for even a glutton like me, with believable motives and suitably rotten bad guys, and an oddly benevolent-in-spite-of-himself Cowley. It was a brilliant read, and one I'm sure I'll come back to many times. Thank you for all your effort.
