Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Characters/Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 44,442

Summary:
Doyle is uneasy when Cowley orders him and Bodie to draw out a Soviet blackmailer, but even he doesn't suspect just how wrong things are about to go.
Notes:
I owe enormous thanks to Callisto (
callistosh65) for doing the first beta on the story, Draycevixen (
draycevixen) for several invaluable plot consults and pointing out where the story was going awry, Halo (
halotolerant) who did a final beta on the (almost) complete story and helped rid it of any unfortunate Canadianisms and dodgy assumptions, and m. butterfly for performing her usual impeccable copyedit. Any remaining mistakes or problems are mine own.
Huge thanks also to Molly, who produced such wonderful art for the story.
And finally, massive appreciation to Draycevixen (
draycevixen), SC Fossil (
sc_fossil), Norfolkdumpling (
norfolkdumpling), Saintvic (
saintvic), and Sineala (
sineala), who cheerfully signed on as co-mods for the Big Bang and made the whole thing possible for another year. A huge hug to all of you! It really wouldn't have happened without you.
This is the latest instalment of my Comfort and Joy series. There are some references to and characters from the earlier stories, but it does stand alone.

Date: 2012-01-11 05:48 pm (UTC)Aaaaaand!!! Finally I've read it *g*
I enjoyed it hugely, as I knew I would. I do love the Doyle family you've created, so I'm quietly hoping you find more things for the lads to do in their new roles, but if you don't, this is a lovely and satisfying place to leave them.
The story was fabulous - enough angst for even a glutton like me, with believable motives and suitably rotten bad guys, and an oddly benevolent-in-spite-of-himself Cowley. It was a brilliant read, and one I'm sure I'll come back to many times. Thank you for all your effort.

Date: 2012-01-11 07:46 pm (UTC)I had originally intended this as the last Comfort and Joy story, but I really am fond of Margaret and the rest of the Doyles, and I have a feeling I'll be visiting them again. Writing more mature lads is definitely a draw for me, but also I totally want to write about how her two doting uncles spoil Evie and how she grows up.
I'm pleased you liked the plotting, and the benevolent-in-spite-of-himself Cowley. (I am rather fond of Cowley.) Thank you for reading!

Date: 2011-11-01 12:47 am (UTC)Fabulous. Loved it. Angst plus ten but what a ride! Well done, Zed!
The art fit into the story very well. I liked having those images whilst I was reading. Great work. This is the first time I've seen work from mollybrooks and I really like her style.

Date: 2011-11-01 01:35 am (UTC)gladrelieved you didn't have to cross the border to beat me. *g*You can at least partially blame Drayce for the level of angst. In an earlier draft the lads worked out their differences far earlier than they do now, but she pointed out that it drained the story of a certain tension, so I cranked up the angst another level.
The art is fab, isn't it. Molly is new to the fandom, and I do hope we see more of her.

Date: 2011-11-02 02:46 pm (UTC)I liked the way the fic was punctuated with pictures that expressed the emotions in that actual part of the text.
I've read them all now! *is proud and happy*

Date: 2011-11-02 05:49 pm (UTC)I do love how Molly's art combined with the story.
And I'm impressed you've read them all! I'm just getting started reading my second BB story, the disadvantage of posting late. But I've got them all loaded up on my iPod and can't wait to get to them.)

Date: 2011-11-06 12:42 am (UTC)I do hope you will continue to write in this series, carry on with the lads in their new roles, it would be very interesting to see how they get on and you portray them so very well.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:06 am (UTC)And it does look like I'll be continuing with the series. I originally thought this would be it, but this story just provides all sorts of interesting directions to go in.
