Pros BB check in post
Aug. 6th, 2013 10:00 amHey everyone and welcome to this week’s check in post for the Pros BB.
As always this is your chance to chat about how you are getting on with your writing, drawing, vidding and anything and everything else. Or if you have any questions that the comm can help with them just let us know in the comments and I just know someone will be able to help.
And for anyone who would like to be hugely distracted for the rest of the day I have a couple of links for you.
The first is this random story generator........here have a sample of my story :D
Before he could come up with any reasonable ideas, Doyle was interrupted by eight clueless elephants that were lured by his sandwich. Doyle shuddered; 'Not again', he thought. Feeling displeased, he randomly reached for his ninja star and skillfully slapped every last one of them. Apparently this was an adequate deterrent--the discouraged critters began to scurry back toward the lemur-infested moor, squealing with discontent. He exhaled with relief. That's when he heard the Ford Capri rolling up. It was Bodie.
And the second is the always deadly and time consuming TV Tropes. I’ll see you all in a few hours.

Date: 2013-08-06 02:34 pm (UTC)I realise this sounds rather belated, but I started terrifically late, so from my point of view it's good news. I have a bad feeling that there will be a *lot* of revising and editing, but I'm not thinking about that, I'm just enjoying being able to get into it again. Whee!
I started putting updates in my LJ, too.
I have a heap of stupid little things I need to check on - is it feasible to put a sleazy pub or bar in a particular location, which side does Doyle have his holster on, the best route out of London towards (somewhere!), and so on, but I am ignoring them for now (unless - guys? - Doyle and holster?)
It's weird actually writing this year instead of lurking around the sidelines playing at being a beta, or even just a reader saying 'yes, yes, keep on with it!'. I miss watching other people's stories take shape, and until mine is more than halfway there, I am chary of sending it anywhere - past history tells me that if I send the start of a story to people and say 'what do you think?', it doesn't matter what they think, I never get back to it and finish it. So I have to get further in.
On which note - free afternoon, and dentist appointment all done with. So back to the scribbling board!
Oh. And I am not going anywhere near TV Tropes! I showed it to a friend the other day and we ended up with about twenty tabs open in the browser and the realisation that we had to stop before the browser exploded!

Date: 2013-08-07 12:58 am (UTC)But I feel good, because I crested a hump, have a better idea of what I'm doing, and see an end of sorts in sight.
So - nothing scheduled this weekend beyond cleaning going to the community shredder on Saturday, so the plan is to get some serious writing done then send the draft to the artistes and People Who Will Read It.
Not going to follow your temptations, LOL, because I'll never get anything done ever again if I do!

Date: 2013-08-10 09:32 pm (UTC)I'm actually pleased with it this week, which is different from the 'why do I bother?' of last week, the 'omg I'll never finish in time' of the week before, and the 'why can't I write anything good?' the week before that. And it is moving along at a reasonable pace. People have read bits of it and don't think it sucks. My glass is half-full.
I'm just hoping I've sewn up all the plot holes in the (albeit pretty complete and intricate) planning stage. Like how is Baddie A connected to Baddie B, how does Minor Character E know Minor Character G and Baddie A, and what's Baddie C got against Protagonist D? Are too many men snogging too many other men? And will the story, being of the (hopefully) mysterious sort, achieve the happy medium between Just Plain Bloody Obvious and Just Plain Bloody Confusing?
(Oh, never mind, I'll sort it, she thought to herself, reaching for the gin.)
Fellow writers, rejoice that thou art not in Maddalia-land this BB.
Yours perhaps over-ambitiously, yet quietly-confidently,
M.

Date: 2013-08-10 09:43 pm (UTC)Our heroes would've lived unhappily ever after, but they were too busy being dead. So, no one lived forever after, the end.
Except that's only what the story wants you to think. In reality there's a daring escape like in Spy Game, and they live happily ever after in a villa in the South of France.
