The sixth annual Professionals Big Bang is over, and we'd like to thank you all for making it a success! Whether you wrote a story, made art, served as a beta or cheerleader, or just read and enjoyed, thank you so much for participating!

Make sure to check out the master list for a full list of the stories and art/vids produced this year.

Once again, we'd also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] callistosh65 and [livejournal.com profile] przed, without whom there would have been no Pros Big Bang!

Thanks again!

Your mods,

Hi all! Just a few things to say before posting begins tomorrow, Thursday, October 1!

The posting templates went out a few days ago; if you did not get yours, or if you have further questions, please drop us an email at prosbigbang@gmail.com, or leave a comment here. Remember that, like last year, artists will be making their own art posts to this community in addition to authors making story posts!

Once again, we would like to remind you not to cross-post your stories or art to other communities until the beginning of November.

Authors, if you would like your stories to be included on the proslib CD, this is, as far as I am aware, the most current information for how to go about that.

Everybody get ready! It's gonna be a great, Pros-filled month! Thanks again!

Just popping in with a reminder that the deadline for writers' final drafts and artists' rough drafts is the 23rd of September. That's just less than a week now!

The full details of what you need to send us (drafts and dates you can not post), where to send it to, what will be happening next, and other information can be found at this post.

As always if you have any questions you can email us at prosbigbang@gmail.com.
[identity profile] sineala.livejournal.com
As we are now getting ever closer to our deadline of 23rd September we thought we'd put up the details of what you need to do to submit your stories and art.

Writers

Send your completed story to the following email address:

prosbigbang@gmail.com

Please use the following naming convention for the file:

prosbigbang_yourname_storytitle.doc

We're expecting that your draft is complete at this point, though you can definitely tweak before your posting date.

Artists

Please send the rough draft of your art to the same addresses above. It's not necessary to have completed art by this point (though that would be lovely) but we would like to know that you're on the way to finishing.

Writers and Artists

Since our next step is to create the posting schedule, please let us know if there are any dates that we should absolutely avoid giving you.

We want to make sure everyone has a date they're comfortable with, and one on which they can easily get their story or art up.

We’ll do our best to accommodate any requests, but we’d like everyone to appreciate that we're aiming to spread the stories out as evenly as possible throughout the month.

Next steps

Once we have everyone's stories and art, we will be putting together the posting schedule. And when that's done, we'll be emailing everyone their posting date, along with details of how to create a post at [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks with links to whichever location you’ve chosen to post your story and art to (LJ, Dreamwidth, The Automated Hatstand, AO3, etc).

Drop us a line at the address above if you have any questions or issues.

Thanks once again to everyone for participating. We can't wait to see everyone's contributions to the challenge.
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
Now that we have just over a month to go until the final deadline we thought it was about time to let you all know what to expect over the next few weeks. Apologies for this long post, we didn't want any of it hidden under a cut.

The Deadlines

Wednesday 23rd September

Writer's final draft is due
  • While you'll still have a few days to tweak and polish, we'd like the writers to have complete, finished stories by this point.
Artist's rough draft is due
  • As the artists have less time to work on this than the writers, we only need to see a rough draft of their art at this point. What we're looking for is an indication that the artist is on track to finish in time for their posting date.
Artists and writers should all send their drafts to the friendly mods. Further information about sending us these drafts will be posted closer to the deadline.

Sunday 27th September

The posting schedule is sent out to artists and writers.

Thursday 1st October

Posting begins. *dances*

What You Will Be Posting

Writers

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: your story.
  • You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like The Automated Hatstand or AO3, or on a website.

  • We only require that the story is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your story before your assigned posting date.
In the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your story
  • We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.
Artists

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: the art for your claimed story, with any commentary you'd like.
  • You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like The Automated Hatstand or AO3, or on a website.

  • We only require that the art is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your art before your assigned posting date.
In the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your artist's post.
  • We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.
Writers and artists

Just a quick reminder that like last year both writers and artists will be making their own master posts to [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks. But of course, as in previous years, writers and artists who would like the art included within the story should feel free to arrange to do so.

Some extra reminders / notes

We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

We will also be asking you about any dates in October when you would not be able to post so put your thinking caps on.

If posting in LJ, there is a limit of 65,000 characters per post. This generally works out to an average of 8,000 to 10,000 words.

A new 2015 Pros Big Bang Collection has been made available here. To find out more about AO3 take a look here and here. To be clear you are not required to post your story / art at AO3 but if you are interested in posting at AO3 we still have some invite codes left so drop us a line if you would like one.

And we ask that both artists and writers do not cross-post their stories and art to any other community before the end of October.

And finally

As always if you have any questions, drop us a comment or an email (the address is prosbigbang@gmail.com) and watch out at the comm for future posts.

This is your reminder that Sunday, March 1 is the deadline for signing up as a writer for this year's Professionals Big Bang!

If you haven't signed up, and you'd like to, leave a comment with the requested information on the signup post! We hope to see you there!

(Beta and cheerleader signups are of course still open.)
[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com
This is your opportunity to sign up below to offer your services as an editor/beta. If you haven't done this before, you volunteer and if someone needs you to read their story, they ask you to help. You and your writer set your parameters, such as read for plot only, or read for grammar, punctuation, or whatever you both feel comfortable with. Beta readers and editors are important to most writers so that they can present a clean and polished final version of their story.

If you are a writer who already has a beta and/or editor, they don't have to sign up. This is only for folks who want to volunteer to help writers who possibly don't have anybody to help them out.

Thanks so much!

This is your reminder that author signups for the sixth annual Professionals Big Bang open on Sunday, February 1! Less than a week! Are you ready?

While you wait for the signup post, you can read (or reread) 2014 Big Bang entries. Last year, participants produced 16 stories, for a total of 492,416 words of fiction, with accompanying art!

You can also check out the 2013 Big Bang entries (11 stories, 435,414 words), 2012 stories (19 stories, 678,220 words), the 2011 stories (16 stories, 585,646 words), and the 2010 stories (23 stories, 695,123 words)!

That means that in the past five years the participants in the Big Bang (that's you!) have written (and illustrated) 85 stories with a total wordcount of 2,886,819 words! Will we make it to 100 stories? Will we make it to three million words? If you sign up, you can make this happen!
[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com
For those of you who haven’t seen a Big Bang Challenge before, it’s a collaborative effort between writers and artists. Writers sign up to write a story with a minimum word count. Later in the process, artists claim a story based on an anonymous story summary and produce at least one piece of art to go with it. The art can be an illustration, a manip, or even a vid.

Over the last three years we’ve set the minimum word count at 15,000 and we have decided to keep that word count for this year as it seems like a good figure for everyone. But please remember 15,000 is the minimum word count and if you would like to write 30,000, 50,000 or even 100,000 we will cheer you on all the way.

And now for the schedule.............

Writer sign ups will start on the 1st February and run until the 1st March.
Artist sign ups will start on the 1st May and run until the 31st May.
Rough drafts are due at the start of July and the artists claims day will happen just after that.
Final stories and art are due in late September and posting begins in October.

And you can find the more detailed schedule on the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks profile page and on the left hand side of the main comm page.

Of course even if you don't plan on signing up, please do feel free to join the community. You can help by cheerleading, volunteering to beta, providing prompts, and generally joining in the festivities.

So fire up your word processor, sharpen your pencils, fine tune your Photoshop skills, gear up your vidding software and get ready for the 2015 Box of Tricks!
