What with posting beginning in under a week, it's time to say a few words about the collection at AO3. These will be much the same words that we have said in previous years.

You are not required to post your story/art to AO3, but we encourage you to do so. It lets us have a central location for all of the Big Bang fanworks, and also, as you probably know, all stories are easily downloadable in e-reader friendly formats; this is particularly nice for your fellow fen with health issues or those who just plain love their e-readers.

The collection for the current year is Pros Big Bang 2019. (Previous years' collections are accessible here.)

Sineala wrote up a little guide for how to post to AO3 for the Big Bang; the same directions apply, except that you'll want to make sure you're in the 2019 collection this year.

If anyone who doesn't have an AO3 account and wants one, let us know.

If you have stories/art from previous years that you have not yet posted to the AO3, we have left the previous collections open for exactly this reason. Feel free to add your Big Bang story or art to the appropriate year's collection.

Happy posting! Let us know if you have any questions and we will attempt to confuse you further, ah, I mean help, of course! =0

Just a reminder ...

...the deadline for writers' final drafts and artists' rough drafts is the 23rd of September. That's next Monday - less than a week from today. O:

As always: if you have any questions, email us at prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com.

Hi all.. . the time grows near . . .to begin thinking about . . .yes, you must think about . . Submitting Your Drafts!

As we are now getting ever closer to our deadline of 23rd September we thought we'd put up the details of what you need to do to submit your stories and art.

Writers

Send your completed story to the following email address:

prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com

Please use the following naming convention for the file:

prosbigbang_yourname_storytitle.doc

We're expecting that your draft is complete at this point, though you can definitely tweak before your posting date.

Artists

Please send the rough draft of your art to the same addresses above. It's not necessary to have completed art by this point (though that would be lovely) but we would like to know that you're on the way to finishing.

Writers and Artists

Since our next step is to create the posting schedule, please let us know if there are any dates that we should absolutely avoid giving you.

We want to make sure everyone has a date they're comfortable with, and one on which they can easily get their story or art up.

We’ll do our best to accommodate any requests, but we’d like everyone to appreciate that we're aiming to spread the stories out as evenly as possible throughout the month.

Next steps

Once we have everyone's stories and art, we will be putting together the posting schedule. And when that's done, we'll be emailing everyone their posting date, along with details of how to create a post at ci5_boxoftricks with links to whichever location you’ve chosen to post your story and art to (LJ, Dreamwidth, The Automated Hatstand, AO3, etc).

Drop us a line at the address above if you have any questions or issues.

Thanks once again to everyone for participating. We can't wait to see everyone's contributions to the challenge.

Well, folks, that dreaded moment is quickly approaching -- we're a little over a month out, omigodI'mnowhereneardone and it's time to go over what happens in that month. This is not under a cut because it's all important.

So here we go:

I. The Deadlines

Friday 23rd September

Writer's final draft is due
While you'll still have a few days to tweak and polish, we'd like the writers to have complete, finished stories by this point.

Artist's rough draft is due
As the artists have less time to work on this than the writers, we only need to see a rough draft of their art at this point. What we're looking for is an indication that the artist is on track to finish in time for their posting date.

Artists and writers should all send their drafts to the friendly mods. [who really haven't pulled all their hair out yet- fingernails, yes, hair, no] Further information about sending us these drafts will be posted closer to the deadline.

Tuesday 27th September

The posting schedule is sent out to artists and writers.

Saturday 1st October

Posting begins. Woot Woot Woot *\\\\o////*

II. What You Will Be Posting

Writers

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: your story.
You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like AO3, or on a website.

We only require that the story is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your story before your assigned posting date.

In the ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your story.
We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

Artists

In a publicly accessible location of your choosing: the art for your claimed story, with any commentary you'd like.
You may post in your own LJ, in an LJ you create specifically for this purpose, in an archive, like AO3, or on a website.

We only require that the art is publicly accessible, and that you do not post your art before your assigned posting date.

In the ci5_boxoftricks LJ: a post with a link to your artist's post.
We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

Writers and artists

Just a quick reminder that like last year both writers and artists will be making their own master posts to ci5_boxoftricks. But of course, as in previous years, writers and artists who would like the art included within the story should feel free to arrange to do so.

III. Some extra reminders / notes

We'll be supplying templates for what your posts should look like nearer to the posting dates.

We will also be asking you about any dates in October when you would not be able to post so put your thinking caps on.

If posting in LJ, there is a limit of 65,000 characters per post. This generally works out to an average of 8,000 to 10,000 words.

A new 2019 Pros Big Bang Collection has been made available here (yeah, there). To be clear you are not required to post your story / art at AO3 but if you are interested in posting at AO3 we still have some invite codes left so drop us a line if you would like one.

And we ask that both artists and writers do not cross-post their stories and art to any other community before the end of October.

IV. And finally

As always if you have any questions, drop us a comment or an email (the address is prosbigbangtwo@gmail.com) and watch out at the comm for future posts.

High Stakes Summary

Chico and Sid learn that the senior steward of the Jockey Club has died. Bodie and Doyle uncover his murder, and the implication that he was involved in some extremely risky business. This fouls Bodie and Doyle’s plans for the weekend—and possibly their entire future. The Professionals/Racing Game crossover.

Warning: details of child abuse and child trafficking

While Doyle is still recovering from being shot by Mayli, he and Bodie are assigned as redundant back-up for surveillance of an IRA terrorist in London. Still worried about his health and his future in CI5, Doyle becomes increasingly doubtful about why he and Bodie have been assigned to the case. And why has hardened terrorist Sean Donovan brought his children with him to England? As they uncover the details, Bodie and Doyle must make a choice about where their loyalties lie, and how far they will go in the name of CI5.

jat_sapphire author -- Macklingirl artist

Working title: Underground
Summary:
As a young man, Ray Doyle came to London with barely the train fare in his pocket. He lived in Brixton, among abandoned flats and a sexually and racially diverse population. He chose family and worked for social change … and slept with men, women, and genderfluid people. Then he joined the Met and later, CI5. He'd hoped his partner Bodie would never have to know.
Now CI-5 has an operation in the Brixton squats, and Ray must tell Bodie enough about his past there to make sure they can work safely and complete their assignment. They must work together and come to terms with their new knowledge and both their sexualities, as well as the unforeseen complications of their assignment.
The object of their assignment, Szymon Nowak, is hesitating to come in. Bodie and Doyle don't know why. Nowak has a boyfriend he has not told them about. Their relationship is volatile and intense. The boyfriend thinks Bodie and Doyle threaten his relationship with Nowak and tries to chase them away. The gay community in the squats which Nowak is part of protects him and drives off his boyfriend, who is part of King Billy's biker gang.
Nowak comes in and that case seems to be over, but Doyle is still stuck between Billy and Nowak's boyfriend on one side and Bodie and his Brixton community on the other. Bodie needs to work with Doyle, not “protect” him by shutting him out and driving him into an impossible position. Doyle needs to be more open about his past, his sexual identity, and his commitment to Bodie.

A face from his distant past unexpectedly arrives in London and Bodie finds himself drawn undercover, alone and unprepared.
Unable to contact HQ without putting himself at risk, he has to wait until Doyle tracks him down before he can pass over the vital information necessary to prevent an IRA attack on the mainland.
But where does Ray start looking?

Times Change

Cowley has set up Bodie and Doyle once too often and Bodie has finally had enough.

While Doyle is musing things over, Bodie hands in his resignation, expecting his partner to follow suit and when Doyle doesn't, Bodie is deeply hurt.

Cowley, realizing he's losing Bodie, makes Doyle an offer. When Bodie hears about it he feels that Doyle has badly let him down.

While Bodie is working his notice period he has withdrawn completely from Doyle. Doyle is struggling to try and get Bodie to open up. A life and death shoot out leads Doyle to a last ditch attempt to save their partnership.

Summary
As the legend goes, if the ravens should ever leave, the Tower will crumble into dust, and great harm will befall the kingdom.
Credible threats have been made against the nation’s antiquities. CI5 agents Bodie and Murphy are sent undercover to work as part of the Guard Extraordinary, the special defence force tasked with the protection the Tower of London. Their assignment: protect the ravens at all cost.
At the Tower, Bodie and Murphy meet former Metropolitan Police Detective Constable Raymond Doyle, Yeoman Warder and member of the Extraordinary… who also happens to be the RavenMaster of the Tower’s formidable flock.
As the threat deepens, Bodie must deal with his growing attraction to the enigmatic Doyle, even as he fights to keep both him and his precious birds safe from harm.
And when the ravens and their master suddenly disappear, Bodie must find them and return them to the Tower before the legend is fulfilled…

B has spent his time serving in Pharaoh's army out of the country, away from the land of his birth. He's used to the chaotic life of the southern border, where souls from across the known world meet to trade, to bargain, to fight.

Under the new Pharaoh, however, things quickly change and his unit is transferred to Akhetaten. Built twenty years earlier by the Heretic Pharaoh, and abandoned twelve years after that, the isolated city is virtually abandoned, the only souls remaining those who were unable to leave after the fall of the Heretic's rule.

Most of them are congregated into a small outpost by the river, where they live a life very similar to any small village throughout the land. But there still remain a few priests in the Temple of the Aten, continuing the rites of the Heretic's old religion. The priests mostly keep to themselves, but can be hostile when confronted. At least the stroppy one with the curly hair -- whom B has the displeasure of continually running into.

B's unit spends its mornings drilling, drilling, drilling – and its afternoon unoccupied. There's nothing to be found for miles, much less a threat.

Abandoned city, sulky priests, constant drills. B has no idea why his unit has been stationed there. And he's wondering how he can get himself transferred with some action.

Though he's about to find out.

Klara 3745 author -- brune artist

During the summer of 1981 a series of murders are passed to CI5 to deal with as they involve civil servants and Cowley has an itch that needs scratching. During routine enquiries a fingerprint is found and the identity of the killer is revealed to have links to Bodie’s past and also Belfast. To begin with it is believed that the killer’s target may be Bodie but Cowley makes a connection that could implicate another member of the squad. With one member of the squad injured and one on the missing list will they be able to prevent the killer from striking again? How will traumatic events from the past affect the present?

WARNING: This story deals with the effects of rape and abortion but does not go into great detail

AU / CRACK!FIC

Bodie, a writer, arrives at the gates of a Scottish castle in the remote Western Isles in search of a story about artist Ray Doyle, who disappeared after an explosion in his art gallery three years ago when he was seriously injured in a raid.
The castle belongs to local laird, George Cowley, who has many interesting stories to tell, none of them very credible. Doyle has been employed to house-sit and keep an eye on Mr. Cowley, but it seems that there may be more to his role than he realised when CI5 turn up, wanting to find a missing piece of information before the Russians come calling. Soon Bodie and Doyle’s developing love affair is most inconsiderately interrupted by a succession of helicopters, civil servants, lost foreign task forces and the Russians.
All they really want is for everyone to go away again so they can get back to where they were: Bodie posing for Doyle’s first painting since the raid, and the constantly interrupted first kiss…

The 10th Annual Pros Big Bang Challenge

We're Back!!!!! And just in time for . . .

The 10th Annual Pros Big Bang Challenge

For those of you who haven’t seen a Big Bang Challenge before, it’s a collaborative effort between writers and artists. Writers sign up to write a story with a minimum word count. Later in the process, artists claim a story based on an anonymous story summary and produce at least one piece of art to go with it. The art can be an illustration, a manip, or even a vid.

This year's word count is 10,000 to encourage more writers to dip their toes into the welcoming water. But please remember 10,000 is the minimum word count and if you would like to write 30,000, 50,000 or even 100,000 we will cheer you on all the way.

This is the time to think about that fic you started but RL got in the way, or the fic that just needs to be polished . . . or you just found languishing on a floppy disk. Hear the rally cry to join us!!!

And now for the schedule.............

Writer sign ups will start on the 1st February and run until the 1st March.
Artist sign ups will start on the 1st May and run until the 31st May.
Rough drafts are due at the start of July and the artists claims day will happen just after that.
Final stories and art are due in late September and posting begins in October.

And you can find the more detailed schedule on the ci5_boxoftricks profile page and on the left hand side of the main comm page.

Of course even if you don't plan on signing up, please do feel free to join the community. You can help by cheerleading, volunteering to beta, providing prompts, and generally joining in the festivities.

So fire up your word processor, sharpen your pencils, fine tune your Photoshop skills, gear up your vidding software and get ready for the 2019 Box of Tricks!
