*waves hello*

I wanted to start this weekly check in with a couple of quick reminders.

The first is that the deadline for the artists sign up on the 30th May is getting ever closer. if you would like to sign up just head over to the Artists sign up post.

The second is for the writers and is just a reminder that we have posted some information about the rough draft requirements, you can seem them at the rough draft requirements post.

And of course the deadline for the rough draft submissions is the 1st July.............tons of time yet.

Now to move on to more distracting things.

Found this link to various writing tips from the masters. Lots of interesting stuff here and my fav pieces of advice was from the truly brilliant Neil Gaiman and was simply: Write.

I also thought that I might try and distract you all completely and utterly with a link to TV Tropes. I can guarantee once you start looking at this site you will lose lots of your time to it but hey they say: this wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction. So we can pretend it is research.

And for my last link here is a collection of resources about Writing Sex Scenes. I especially liked the 102 places to have sex list and it set me wondering how many the lads could take advantage of *g*.

And of course this is your chance to let us know how you are getting on, see if anyone wants to join you when you escape to a tropical island *g*, ask any questions, curse my name for distracting you with links, and just generally chat away about the BB.

Progress!

Well it's not much to shout about but I do now have a working title, a first line and 152 words! Wa-hey!! Although looking closely at the 152 words, they don't actually seem to relate to the story I have in mind... oh well, that's a minor quibble I guess :)

\o/ !!

Journey: thousand steps, starting, etc. :D

The 152 will fit in, in that chapter you'll end up writing to explore a plot point you put in there in a few weeks. (Remember that? LOL)

It's that time again already? God, everything flies past...

Thanks for the links! The "how to write a sex scene" link is *really* helpful, since that's a weakness, but they all help keep the Good Ship BB on the right course. :D

I'm feeling much better about things right now. I set aside time last weekend and just wrote - and better yet, figured out the next things I have to do task-wise and story-wise. Am at about 7,800 words, and wrote the weekend count plus 3/4ths of the count for this week in a day and a half. Am looking up sources for the research left to be done. If I sat down and did an updated outline, it would actually show some story progression. :D And as things stand right now, there isn't much in the way of sex scenes yet besides generally knowing where they should fall, so that will up the count as well.

So the BB's looking much more doable now, although I didn't get something done for my boss.

But you know? I can't spend seven days a week working for months on end; and having a job (which I do appreciate having) doesn't mean I completely surrender my life (in which I still have the broken foot, and actually just moved as well) in order to complete tasks when we've all been signed up for waaaay too much with no say in the matter.

...Wow, that sounds like I'm unloading a bit there, LOL.

And thanks for the answers to my literary question; I'll reply when the netbook isn't trying to blow up from being overloaded with script requests, LOL.

I always find that whatever makes me feel romantic and exciting makes my sex scenes flow!

Oh noooooo, TV Tropes. I'm not going there! I'll check out the other links though.

As to progress, there has been none. I keep changing my mind as to what to write and not actually getting on with any of it :( What I have been doing is watching 'Queer as Folk' on YouTube from the official 4odDrama channel. What do you mean 1999 Manchester isn't research? It could be!

I clicked on the TV Tropes link last night... and got bagged endlessly by my sons. *sigh* They like to see me fall into the same time-waster trap that grabs them. *g*

You're going to have to be very firm with your ideas and tell them to settle down and behave!

*g* My current 'sink' is cracked.com. Never follow a link to that site unless you want to spend the whole weekend there. *g* (my youngest warned me about TV Tropes)

I has good news, and great news! The good news is, I've managed to add 2K to my story. The great news is, my beloved beta is finally FREEEEEE and able to discuss my story with me! Yaaaaayy! *does the happy dance and throws confetti* I'm certain progress will be much quicker now!

And now I'm off to bed, feeling well satisfied with myself. *g*

I love the weekly check in, because my memory is so appalling I NEEEED you!! I'm quite chuffed by my latest addition, cos I managed to squeeze in reference to where I used to live when I was aged 1 to 4. I don't remember much, there was a lady upstairs with fluffy pink slippers and I remember dropping my train thru the bars of the balcony railings, but I managed to get it into the story anyway! LOL!!!

How to write sex scenes - bookmarked for future reference, with thanks. I could do with How to write fight scenes. Not individual fights - those are OK - but the choreography of battles with whole groups of terrorists, agents, or whatever. That's my nightmare!! I've tried having it all happen off-scene but my beta says I mustn't... I don't think this is fair because if a writer wants to fade to black at the bedroom door the fic just gets a PG rating and there's no problem, but apparently fights with a cast of more than three or four have to be explicit. *g*

LOL! Well, that's up to you, not your beta. :) It's hard having lots of stuff going on in a scene.

I'm determined to get this story off to my Brit beta tonight or tomorrow. *kicks self and story*

Well I have over 10,000 words written. Still don't know if it's any damn good though.
Also a bit uncertain about what to write next. I thought I had it earlier... need to take a good long think I guess.

On the plus side if I squint really hard I can just make out that I am probably at the halfway point to the required word count for the draft deadline. On the minus side is the length of time it has taken me to get that far!

Thanks for the link to the sex scenes site, very handy indeed:)

At 7,600 words, feeling ambivalent about the story again... I think it's a decent narrative, but I'm not sure if it's a decent narrative about Bodie and Doyle if that makes sense.

Needs moar muse.

Ray has undergone some intense therapy to help cure him of his TGS (see last week's check in post), and is well on the way to recovery.

But other than that I have been struggling with my muse (and confidence) all week. There is a big hole in the middle of my story that I can't get my head around. I have written what's before and what's after but the story needs something here (what I call "the boring bit" - necessary but not easy to write).

Anyway, I've sat down this morning and in an hour written 1000 words. I don't know where they've come from, but they just flowed and don't sound too bad. Hopefully, I can do the same later, and I'll soon have the missing chapter.

As for confidence in my writing, I'm rethinking the wisdom of my first Pros (and long) fic being for something as prestigious as the Big Bang. On the one hand I need the committment and deadlines otherwise it just wouldn't get written. On the other: OMG what the **** was I thinking, these other writers have been writing fantastic Pro's fic for years, mine is going to be awful by comparison.

Takes several deep, calming breathes. I just need to keep reminding myself that this story came to me in its entirety for a reason (believe me, this has never happened before!).

Prestigeous? Wow. That's really nice of you to say but... We're regular normal folks just like you, pounding out a story. Angsting over it. Rewriting. Crying that it won't bloody work! And we want your fic in our big bang. :)
